Carlos Sainz has FINALLY decided where his future lies, and it's Williams. But what does this mean for Alex Albon? Will he be able to keep up, or will he fall back and end up a no.2 driver at the team he's spearheaded for 3 years now?

Well the main thing coming from the pairing will be: 'Is Alex actually that good?' or 'Is Logan really that bad?'
  • @broodjebamibal
Big W for Williams. Going from Latifi (a pay driver) and Russell (The merc protege that was always leaving / likely engine discount ) to a stable lineup of 2 drivers that have proven experience of their own.
  • @C.fx031
Most likely Williams will handle Carlos and Alex the same way McLaren do with Lando and Oscar, that being with no clear number 1 driver
  • Regardless of how you regard either Carlos or Alex, it's undeniable that this pairing is the best that modern Williams has had since Massa and Bottas.

'if he can bring santander with him, wow that would a huge coup for Williams in the bank' I'm here for the unintended banking puns

It’s a big test for Albon. He’s up against a driver that isn’t the best or the worst in the grid now and well better know where he stands among the rankings now. If he beats Sainz then he could get back into a top team (as a number 2 though)
  • @9jawwad
This is the perfect test for Albon to see how far he has come along. Is he really that great in that Williams car or was his teammates Latifi and Sargeant just shocking?!

sainz and albon are 30 and 28, respectively. i think williams having a more mature driver line up will suit the culture that vowles is trying to create at Grove
  • @D-FRANCIS07
These two imo make probably the strongest lineup outside the top 4 teams, Vowles cooked
  • @F1Unchained
Both drivers are great and I think both have great consistency which will matter here at Williams. I think it will be decided by a point or two on who will be ahead. Love the Williams team but this pairing makes me love them even more
  • Surely williams must be cooking something up there Newey
?

Alex is the real deal. I'm excited to Alex to finally be tested since coming back after being dumped by RedBull. Sainz is an incredible driver. I believe Alex is equal to the challenge. It's a great day to be a Williams fan.

Sainz actually has a lot of parallels to Alonso as a driver. Both favour under steer. Both a couple of tenths shy of the very quickest drivers but great at using their IQ to close the gap
  • @slip13inc
Carlos and Alex are my favorite drivers. It will be great to see them racing for my favorite team. I hope that in 2026 the McLaren effect will happen with Williams.

This is why this move is so bad for Sainz as well... He's going into "someone else's" team again and risks losing his prestige if he gets beaten. But at the same time he wont have the chance to fight for wins/podiums there either... It's a lose-lose for Carlos :(

Sainz career is kinda cool. STR >> Renault (Factory team) >> Mclaren (Classic legend) >> Ferrari (All time legend) >> Williams (other historic legend)
  • @Oblivion9873
that wasn't alex shouting at max at AD21, it was GP. Max, GP and Alex have all said as much
  • What an upgrade from Sargent. A bit underwhelmed but I guess this was Carlos best option. Solid driver lineup from Williams
  • @dgomes265
Will take Sainz a few races to get used to the Williams dustbin. Also, you will not see him throwing away positions like Lando, George or Leclerc
