Beware manga spoilers in this video!
In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen cursed techniques are easily one of the most important aspects of a character. They’re the main method of fighting and throughout the story many fans have gotten the idea that being stuck with a bad cursed technique means you’re essentially doomed as a sorcerer. However I don’t quite think that that is the case and in this video I’ll be going over how & why cursed techniques aren’t the actual problem.

I completely agree on the Geto stance, he was depressed and practically suicidal. He never improved on himself he honestly just held himself back.
  • @grizzlyvoid284
This especially applies to the current Gojo vs Sukuna fight. Not pure cursed energy but the simple creativity and application of Jujutsu as a whole.
  • I think this is known as a counterpart to power-scaling, called strategy-scaling. Where instead of comparing the raw power and physical potential of certain characters, you compare their intelligence and creativity. The exact way they fight, not just how hard.

The way to improve one's cursed technique is basically "f*ck around and find out!" For example,Mahito f*cked around a LOT!That's how he improved and if he wasn’t used by Kenjaku, then he would've probably got around Sukuna and Gojo's level pretty soon!
  • 4:20 Mai was able to craft that blade by using a binding vow with her life as the price + taking away Maki's curse energy complited the heavenly restriction, so she was no longer affected by it.
  • @comicstrider4851
It's not that Toge has little CE reserves, it's Yuta having even more CE than freaking Gojo
  • @Necokeniii
This got me thinking what gojo was telling Megumi in the beginning, your limit is yourself. Megumi got stronger when he actually wanted to win. This makes me think yuji’s CT will be amazing

Mai and Yorozu are peak example of "No bad curse technique." Mai was really bad at using her technique, where as Yorozu is insanely powerful. Possibly special grade with perfect sphere.
  • It's also straight up untrue that a sorcerer is doomed with a bad CT or no CT. Between simple domains, special grade cursed tools, binding vows, and maybe even reversed curse technique (not to mention so many fights coming down to physical brawls), pretty much anyone with a half decent amount of CE can get to at least grade 2 with training, probably grade 1 with a good teacher.

The fact you can control anything from atoms to bad hair with cursed energy should tell you how cool and diverse the JJK universe is

I also think that there is something to be said about the creativity aspect of using sorcery. Wasn't the whole of the upper class of Jujutsu society about how things could only work or be taught in a certain way? It would make sense then that people who let themselves 'flow freely' and embrace new ideas and ways to manipulate cursed energy (Hakkari's IDG, Higaruma's Judgeman, Reggie's Receipts, etc) are the ones that are most often seen as special grade. It's also ironic that the 'traditional' Zen'in family gets undone because they clung to those values.

This also perfectly encapsulates how and why sukuna became so powerful. He refused to let anything hold him back, he always saw himself as the strongest, his mindset and creativity is insane! Selfishness isn't always a bad thing.
  • @MangaTT
With the case example of Yuta using cursed speech. For all of the harsher commands, he uses a cursed tool, hence no negative feedback. He issues less harsher commands when using it on his person (i.e. like Inumaki). For example, he would say "Don't Move" instead of simply "Die!".

I think Yorozu & Mai really show the difference that the user has on the technique, yes Yorozu had far more cursed energy, but she also studied and overcame the heavy energy burden through implementation of biomechanics. SPOILER AHEAD, PLEASE BE WARNED: . . . Sukuna's usage of ten shadows really shows how megumi's rigidity was holding him back, focusing on fluidity and The shikigami as extensions of the shadow as opposed to creatures created way more versatility. We see in the culling games arc early on and in chimera shadow garden, megumi starting to realise this aspect, hiding in shadows focusing on fluidity to increase his potential.

I realized this when seeing the Zenin massacre. They’re family is a perfect example and shows a lot of political world. I realized that the jujutsu world put a lot of importance or being innately strong through your curse techniques. Meaning that if your technique isn’t strong in itself then you aren’t considered strong. Which is why I think the modern sorcerers are so weak but when we look at the dead sorcerers. They’re all specialists within they’re own techniques. Specifically Sukuna of course. Which is why I think they’re able to figure out others techniques so easily bc they’re experienced in examining they’re own and pushing the limits. I compare to one piece how one devil fruit isn’t really weak ever. It’s how you use it. But with jujutsu it often takes real battles and training that force you to think out of the box on the fly. Like how Gojo. Knew about red but only awakened it when he was literally experiencing death itself. He was experiencing the moment of which the technique would be need. He knew how it felt so he now understands how the technique should feel or should be applied down to the cell so he would heal himself I think that’s why Kenjaku and Sukana love the heion period so much. It was an explosion of curse energy knowledge and creative thinking. On the geto stance. I agree. I saw a video that basically said. He was too focused on being a by the books duty bound sorcerer relying solely on his technique for a sense of strength. His duty being eliminate curses. He gets depressed when he fails. Thus causes him to instead of trying to become stronger like gojo. And believing his crush technique is terrible. He focus more on how to easier eliminate curse spirits from the source and fulfill his duty bout ideology while expressing his hate for human due to them being the root of curse energy and the cause of his own major failure.

We also don't know what the range of Mai's technique was. If it were big enough, she could have maybe summoned something like a tiny particle of Oganesson, which has a half-life of less than a millisecond, inside her opponent. This would near-instantly obliterate them in a miniature nuclear explosion. Or, if she had learned reverse cursed technique, she might have even been able to summon antimatter for an even greater effect!

One thing I find interesting is that Kusakabe doesn't have an innate technique, and yet he was able to reach 1st Grade. He's got a very diverse pool of knowledge about barrier techniques to make up for it, but the fact remains that even lacking an innate technique doesn't have to lock you out of being a successful sorcerer. If he applied himself, Ijichi might have been able to attain a similar feat. I'm hoping that the deaths of Mai and Kokichi will have inspired Momo and Miwa to start applying themselves more. The crazy thing about Momo is that she would be a hard counter to Toji, if she can choose a battlefield with no way to let him leap up to her (assuming she's using the broom and can manipulate multiple cursed tools) by just taking whatever he pulls out of his arsenal and then using it against him. A forest or a crowded city would give Toji ways to reach her, but in an open field, she might just be able to beat him. Among everything else you mentioned, one of the things I love about Jujutsu Kaisen's power system is that it also allows for the total chaos and unpredictable outcomes of real fights. Sometimes you get a matchup between two masters who can go all fifteen rounds without giving in, like what we're seeing in the manga right now. And sometimes the stars align, and someone with a very specific set of skills can overcome an opponent who's much stronger on paper if they apply themselves and use every advantage at their disposal - including a little luck.
  • @superiormeh
I always said that ppl focus too much on one's strengths and not one's capabilities and willpower. It makes a difference in each fight. You did a great job showing that it's not the tool, but the user
  • @ostrichlord9097
I rationalised Yuta receiving no damage from using cursed speech as due to him imbuing the cursed symbols of the technique on his megaphone instead of having them on his body. I think the marks act as the technique itself, which is why its always active for Inumaki. The recoil of the technique was still activated, but it destroyed the megaphone because thats where the technique was activated, not in Yuta's throat
  • @clandestine736
A soldier armed with cursed technique would be powerful considering that he's forced to apply it in combat within a fraction of a second thus he has to train to act on instinct. Sadly we don't have such a character.
