LIVE: India to Replace China as Driver of Global Economic Growth by 2028 | Vantage with Palki Sharma

India is set to replace China as the driver of global growth by 2028 according to a new report. Two factors are mainly driving this change - China's falling growth and India's booming economy. Data shows that China's debt could reach to 61 percent by the end of 2024, further constraining its growth potential. Beijing has been struggling to retain its foreign investors amid a rapid economic downgrade. India, on the other hand, has seen substantial growth - opening its doors to international investors including Apple. Reports show that Apple now makes as much as 14% of its marquee devices from India. This growth momentum, however, comes with its challenges. Can India surpass China to become Asia's economic backbone? Palki Sharma tells you on Vantage.

  • In Sweden we have had ”the India shop” since the 1970ies. It has sold garments, brass things, ceramics, leather products, paper craft and much more. To most of us here those products represent India. Of course there are a blooming software industry but it is not visible to the public. My prejudice about India is that it is very advanced theoretically but not so much in practice. Maybe a new operating system from India that is better than Windows? Would the US like that?

When will India be able to make every single component domestically like China that is inside a DJI drone, Bambu Lab 3D printer, Huawei foldable phone, Xiaomi 150 inch laser projector, BYD EV, BYD blade batteries, High speed train, hydro dam generators, cargo ships diesel engines, helicopter engines, jet engines, lithography machines, IC chips, memory chips, motherboard component assembly machines, RISC-V chips, 8 axis CNC machines, deep tunnel drilling machines, and etc.. Aspirations are great, but managing reality is equally important. Talking/debates are good, but actual work done is the most important of them all. So realistically at what stage does India believe it is in right now? And how many decades does India think it needs to reach china’s manufacturing and R&D level? This is assuming China halts 100%, and make zero effort to improve in the time India plays catch up.
  • As Indian we have the brains and resources but when it comes to disciplines n determinations it's here we cannot guarantee to overtakeS .

Made in India is much better than Made in China—Hero bikes, roads,
  • 6:30 Federalism as a driver of growth, if managed well - wow! I know, from the get-go of drafting Constitution, India was afraid and preferred the use of 'union' to 'federalsim', but actually practicing the latter India has a lot to offer the Global South, not so much China!

The only way to assure India continued economic growth is to tackle its pollution problem. It should follow Norways example in the construction industry. Then explore alternatives to crop burning. Heavily subsidize like Norway to replace ICE vehicles with EVs.
  • I american you brillant at reporting about china and India.

When foreign surveys show India in positive light, it’s all celebrated. But when same surveys show India in the bottom in happiness, hunger index etc. they are dissed. Hypocritical much
