Gas prices in Ontario and Quebec will jump to their highest level in almost two years on Thursday.

The average price of a litre of gas in both provinces is set to rise 14 cents overnight, according to Dan McTeague, president of Canadians for Affordable Energy.

It’s the highest price for gas seen in both provinces since Aug. 2, 2022.
Caryn Lieberman unpacks the reason for the higher prices, and what consumers can do to ease the pain at the pump.

  • You get far more back than you put in said no sane person ever.
  • @HamidA-to8vy
Quebec canceled pipeline between Western Canada and refineries in New Brunswick, so they can't complain about gas prices now
  • @aavvcc
$2.10/L lately in lower mainland of BC

Crude oil prices go down but Canadian’s fuel prices increase! Hmmmm
  • @user-qq4zg4gg3w
As diesel fuel goes up even more; all goods like food that are shipped will cost more.
  • @abhinavgaur13
Feel so lucky to live close to US border. The gas there is 1.25 CAD/ltr

The oil companies should be fined $1 million a day for every cent they go over the dollar a liter barrier, and given back to the consumers. This is totally nonsence how do they expect to get inflation under control. The stress of inflation already put me in the hospital, costing the health system several hundred dollar. It also hurts charities as we have no extra money to donate as it cost more to live than our old age pensions give us to live on.
  • @RD-wm3fo
That’s funny because the price of crude is lower..
  • @James-485
Gas prices in Quebec April 17, 2024 skyrocket to $1,92. At the same day Crude oil price went down $3.00. This is a R@bbery.

If only they had a pipeline to bring them some Alberta oil we could help them out, who would of thought that might come in handy some day?
  • @wickertwm
We can do something about it. Don't vote Liberal or NDP. If you think you have to support either of these parties then just don't vote!
  • @Givemeafinname
There is something we can do about it but Canadians are too weak in the knees to stand up to or for anything.
  • @mdnowshad
Meanwhile we are enjoying $1.30 in Winnipeg
  • @bertgummer8125
Oh don’t worry they always do this. People freak out. So they act like it’s a favour to us to lower it a few cents. People settle down. The. They do it again a few months later. Steadily it keeps going up
  • Electricity prices are regulated in Canada, and I'm saving a bunch of money charging my ev at home, and not buying gas. If the power goes out, I can power the house with the ev. Now I'm planning a solar system, which will give back to the grid in the summer.
  • When I was in the GTA during the pandemic of 2020 it was 90 cents a liter
  • @winstonsmith935
Switch to water, it’s cheaper, bring back steam cars. BC has an abundance of water.
  • Why is it so obviously a scam to sell EVs? How else are they going to sell them? If gas is cheap, EVs are pointless. But if gas is BAD, and expensive, well whadayaknow? Maybe I should get an EV to save my wallet and the world! I’m such a great citizen!
