I`m 53 and grew up 45 minutes away from Rice Lake. It's great to see people still coming from so far away to fish Rice. It's long been a favorite of Americans. The most fish per acre thing I remember reading in outdoors magazines back in the '70's. It definitely has the worst swimming per acre of any lake in Ontario. The fishing though....It can be tough like any lake. There's fish there but they are by no means jumping in the boat. It is true that big fish can be almost anywhere in the lake. Lots of weeds and other cover. I hope you did well.

  • Looks like Fun!!! Thank you for sharing the sights and sounds of your July 2023 holiday trip to Rice Lake. John and I agree on the favorite part. Of course, the making of the most excellent family-time memories still tops the list!
  • Every time it rains hard , Peterborough let's it's waste water plants overflow into rice lake.

You guys drove 8 hrs to catch pan fish.... lol
  • Thanks for visiting. As for the statistic about fish per acre, as a local, this is absurd. Of the 250k lakes in Ontario, rice lake is one of the worse! If you guys drove an extra hour there’s lakes absolutely LOADED with fish.
