B-Side - Vile Run - What happens if X dies first?

Pro-tip: Nothing that warrants Canon Ball: Hard Revenge as a BGM.

If you've read my way-too-long comment about Vile mode's final boss from the last vid, you may have wondered about this. As I said before, you can actually manipulate X's and Zero's energy bars so that X dies before Zero. With my weapon setup from the last vid, you'd need to do the following:

During each phase you fight Zero, only hit him once with Golden Right and once with Bumpity Boom. One hit from Golden Right isn't enough to make him switch with X, but Bumpity Boom does less damage than a second Golden Right. When fighting X, try to maximize your damage output by only using Golden Right or Two Headed Slash (both deal the same amount of damage). It's also advisable to wait until X charges up for Storm Tornado since it enables you to hit him up to 4 times instead of just 2. The idea is to damage X significantly more during his phases than Zero. That way, Zero will survive the third time he appears, but X's energy will be low enough to trash him before Zero. The battle was obviously designed to let X be the last man standing due to the plot-related rivalry to Vile, which is why Zero appears before X to go down first.

Ironically, doing this roundabout approach is actually the easier way to deal with those two since Zero is piss-easy even in rage mode. Just as X, he won't need to charge his shots anymore, meaning everything he fires is a slow charged shot. And that's basically it - you could argue that he uses Ho'outenku more often or that fire pillar move, but there are no other changes to his attacks. Zero is definitely the lesser threat than X, so dealing a bit longer with the two of them before might just be a safer method than going with the intended flow of the battle.

The only thing that can really mess up your game is when Zero actually remembers to fire 4 (now charged) shots in a row, something you can see at the end of the second clip. He can fire those shots in any of his previous patterns, making for some absolutely ridiculous hitbox patterns. Afaik, you can only avoid any of those patterns by using Vile's leg weapon, but even so, Zero jumping at you can screw that (I got lucky here since he was at low HP). The weird thing is that Zero almost never uses his 4 charged shots. I actually wanted to include it in just one clip, but if I don't goof around by taking damage or making stupid movements, Zero won't do it. He will always fire one, jump at you and possibly use Ho'outenku or use the giga attack, but as long as you evade him the way I do here, he should never resort to those 4 shots. So while this is indeed a valid threat, it's practically not an issue since you only need 2 more hits to trash Zero, and before he ever gets the chance to do the 4 shots, you should have long defeated him.

Anyway, I just wanted to show how Zero fights in his rage mode and show off a no damage battle under that circumstance, too. I was a bit playing around and prolonging the battle in hopes of 4 shots, but whatever, you see how much easier this is compared to X.

  • Apparently, the YT algorithm has recently drawn quite some people to this rather old video. If you somehow wound up here and enjoyed what you've seen: Thank you! Since this video has received much more attention than most of my challenge runs of Maverick Hunter X, I invite you to be my guest and watch them if you enjoy that sort of thing: Vile run (no damage): youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFmsBjD8BmmrgpcWijThJAW… X run (no damage, minimalist): youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFmsBjD8BmmpfM7UkJEQzFr… Kirby X run: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLFmsBjD8Bmmoj3IZRHdTSoE…

That voice clip of X saying "Zero, I'm sorry..." might as well have gone unused because of how rare it is to kill him first.
  • So when zero dies 1st x becomes determined and enraged but if x dies 1st zero awakens his true form and is enraged

This remake series would've been so much more successful if it wasn't locked to the psp, there could've been a real treat if we got more perspective games.

Seeing this kind of makes me wish they went a bit further. Inafune didn't want Zero to be playable in X1 purely for the reasoning of him being "too obvious and boring", but I would have LOVED to get three different campaigns, hear the dialogue from Zero to these guys about how a Hunter of his caliber didn't decide to wise up and join Sigma since he was like them, but Zero wouldn't ever be like them (He wouldn't know the origins, obviously).

Explains why he retreats with X instead of fighting off Vile in the intro stage.

This is a case of a character being stronger in gameplay than in cutscenes. X doing a charge shot on Vile by himself: NOT A CHARGE SHOT! completely wrecked X and Zero doing a charge shot together: Vile just negates it completely
  • This is a tad reference to Awakened Zero in X5. Also, you are an amazing player!

Here I am got recommended by Youtube Fun Fact: Zero's Divekick, Giga Attack, and Guard moves are inspired from Megaman X2 and Megaman X8. - Zero's Divekick is inspired by Enkoukyaku from Megaman X8, A divekick pattern attack used when Zero equip with K Knuckles. = Giga Attack is inspired by variant "Giga Attacks" from Megaman X2, and X4 - X8. To me, the elemental giga attacs resembles with Bakuenjin from Megaman X7 but with new pattern up and down rising flames pillar. - and lastly, The Guard pattern is used in Megaman X2 where Zero blocking X's attacks if you failed collect all Zero Parts from X-Hunters
  • .. He's the messiah now Edit: realizes this is the exact same pattern gunvolt would later intergrate into their desperation attacks Objective met: kill x first

The algorythm sure does work in mysterious ways. The fight reminds me somewhat of fighting Pandora and Prometheus in ZX, except those two share the same health bar. WP.
