Exploring The Feathered Frontier

  • When you get dressed up to go to the all-you-can-eat buffet...

Just because you're a scavenger doesn't mean you can't look fabulous!
  • @JohnSmith-mk1rj
I know he's a vulture, and he's almost 3 feet tall, and he pretty much lives up to his name as a 'King,' and he eats rotting flesh, but when he was looking at the camera...
    He was kinda cute.

On turkeys, similar nose appendages are "snoods" while the caruncles are the other head wrinkles. Turkeys have both major and minor caruncles. These vultures only appear to have nose caruncles.
  • Wow! Such a beautiful bird. It's what I'd imagine dinosaurs to be coloured like I reckon!
  • @BioBush
All vultures are cool, but the King Vulture LOOKS cool. Thanks for bringing attention to these important creatures!
  • I have seen this bird twice in Mexico. Once in the Oaxaca Valley near Tule. It looked like a small airplane. The second time on my way to a hot spring South East of Xalapa, Veracruz. The biggest bird I have ever seen.
  • Despite eating rotten flesh and shitting on its own legs this bird seems a lot more noble and helpful than most human kings I've heard of
  • @goosey1561
Yes! More vulture content! These wonderful feathery garbage disposals need more love and awareness, they do so much to keep nature healthy
  • @Kelgrafar
I saw one of these when I was in Belize. They're huge!
  • @TheMightyN
Fun Fact: The King Vulture is what inspired the Parasaurolophus’ color scheme in The Lost World Jurassic Park.
  • @albatross4920
Hands down, one of the coolest birds around 🤘🏾
  • Cozcacuauhtli in Nahuatl, this bird appears in one of the rings of the Aztec calendar just between Cuauhtli (eagle) and Ollin (earthquake).
  • @GREYFLWRMUSIC
I'm sorry, but the title of "Most Beautiful Rotten Meat Eater" goes to the Bearded Vulture, the living proof that feathers on Dinosaurs look anything but stupid or silly.
  • Since I live in Ecuador, one time we went to the amazonic area of the country and I saw a few of these in the jungle.
  • I love how your blouse matches their colour patches. Nice job on telling us about these beautiful birds. Thank you.🖤🇨🇦
  • What a beautiful scavengey boi!!

I think if I ever make a “death personified” character (a la the Wolf from Final Wish), it will be a somewhat goofy and sympathetic character sort of like the grim reaper from Soul Eater but who takes the form of a King Vulture. The look is spot on: Regal and spooky but not sinister. I love vultures and I have for a long time, and thank you so much for introducing me to these rainbow vultures!
