My fiancé likes to say, “money/fame doesn’t change people. It reveals them.” And I think JC is such a perfect example of that
  • @Kinkajou420
There's a difference between giving a problematic individual attention and creating an in depth discussion on them that's thoroughly researched and easily consumable for people just now entering the space.

I loved Bretman Rock’s attitude about influencers collaborating during the pandemic. He said that you’re not interesting if you need other people in all your videos.

The fact that you’re giving us whole ass documentaries in your glowmas is amazing dude omfg we adore this shit lmfao also the quality is spectacular this vidddd

I said the same thing a couple months back, Jeffree, James, whoever, Hourglass, Adept, whichever brand... isn't hurt when we stop talking about them... They're hurt when we don't stop talking about their scandals, so people cannot pretend that they don't know. Bust out your products, use them, tag Ofra and talk about why you don't purchase anymore from the brand. THAT is how you hurt a brand or influencer.

There's two things I use to judge people's character: how they treat servers/retail workers and how they handle waiting in a line. Those two things will tell you a lot about someone's level of entitlement James has failed in both areas. Fame didn't make him a monster, he was always trash.

It's wild how James Charles has gone from a slightly obnoxious but endearing drama kid to... this.
  • @lamia6403
He wasn’t being cancelled for the IT thing, he was being dragged for hating on something and then capitalising on it. Which is a totally fair point for the literal kids of IT to point it.
  • @cierraslowsdown
It’s so so true that phrases like “money changes people” is false. Money just magnifies who you already are. There’s too many people with fame and money that do good and stay level-headed haha
  • @darkarcades
I'm glad you're making these videos. ngl I've been irritated when people say they're tired of the "drama" and feeding into the attention seeking. When people stop talking about it, that's when people forget what happened. People wanting to move on and not mention these influencers is why they're still out here doing whatever they want. Not only do they know the public will eventually move on, they're banking on it. It's happened time and time again.

The IT scandal was between James (who was like what 18-19 at the time?) and the 12 year old actors, which is so funny to me cause if they weren’t famous it’d pretty much be an argument at the kids table during family reunions

I have an autoimmune disease and honestly seeing everyone out partying while I was sitting at home was so infuriating. I’m sitting here constantly worried about if me going to the store for food in an N95 distanced from everyone could kill me, and there are people being super spreaders because boohoo they can’t see a friend despite having the privilege of being able to connect through the internet. If you want to ruin YOUR life and risk YOUR health I couldn’t care less, but don’t ruin ours.
  • The first thing that rubbed me the wrong way about James was him trying to own the word "sister" while continuing to disrespect women. As far as I'm aware, he identifies as cisgender but likes to coopt femininity while constantly disrespecting cis women. Marlena for example. The beauty community on YouTube and Instagram was initially founded by the work of women. I love that makeup is for everyone and people like Manny get to shine for their work. But it rubs me the wrong way to come in to a space built by women, steal the ideas of women with smaller audiences, and then try to refer to yourself in the feminine. "Sister" is not a word for cis men like James and Jeffree who don't respect women and honor the path they paved for them.

Something I always found interesting about him was when he said Tik Tok was obviously a dating app. That immediately set off warning bells in my mind because all I could think was how could he have possibly come to that conclusion? Maybe I've seen different Tik ToKs but I've never seen anything on there that would make me go "oh this is a dating app".

I think my biggest problem with James Charles is that he prepeuates a stereotype that gay men are predatory, mysoginitic, entitled and just gross. He's going to be who people point at when they make homophobic arguments and people won't be able to refute it because he's among the most well known gay men in the world and he's a bad person.

Girl you didn’t have to bless us like this, this year and yet you have the videos this glowmas 👩‍🍳 🤌

See, this is the point I've made a bunch of times. James canceling his meet-and-greet at DragCon, but still going to see the queens he wanted to see, is typical behavior for him. No matter who it hurts or disappoints, James will get what he wants. This is exactly what happened with Halo Beauty and Coachella. He wanted VIP passes, and it didn't matter that he needed to hurt his best friend/mentor to get them. James gets what James wants damn the cost.
  • @manoncandy
Some people are just not made to be famous. Emma Chamberlain is good contrast as someone who also blew up massively as a teen, but has handled fame really well considering how young she is.
  • My friend lives in the town where he grew up and not a single person likes him. From what I understand, he’s always been problematic, even growing up and it’s really disheartening because, as you said, he could have been this incredible role model. Also, as a South African immigrant, I heard about James Charles from his very insulting tweet and it really made me mad, and still does.
  • @KetchupRocket
They weren’t shaming him for not liking the movie, they were shaming him for tweeting during the movie inside the theatre. It’s not only disrespectful to use your phone in the theatre during the screening to the folks who worked on the film but also to everyone around you. That’s why the actors were mad.
