Yeah, that always me wonder... I know that John Dory always felt the pressure of being the oldest, which was what caused him to push his brothers too far. However, Spruce may have felt something similar as well, since he is the second oldest. Maybe not to the same extent as JD, but I could see him struggling in taking care of his younger brothers when JD couldn't do it and asking the latter for advice.
