"Give the devs enough time" is THE absolute best answer i've seen to this problem, and I'm happy someone I agree with most of the time when it comes to videogames says this too.

Listening to Falcon rant about gaming industry is always a welcome addition to any weekend

We had the same problems when I worked as a COBOL developer on an IBM mainframe for a large corporation. Middle management would promise the end-users and the execs the moon, but would never give us enough time to complete the software. So we would turn it over to the users full of bugs. We would have SEV-1s out the wazooo for months, and the execs and the end-users would be very unhappy with us.

Love it when you guys drop these deep dive videos.
  • As a level desinger, "Give me more time" is true. Sometime you get tired doing the exact same thing, I know it's a job, but then again at least give more time so the artist can breath. When you have your passion back, new ideas shows up and make the game even better than expected.

This is why I rarely nowadays buy a game at launch, I wait for the inevitable patches to fix the performance on PC. If more and more people start doing this it's going to impact sales and make the platform less appealing for Devs to release their games on, something needs to be done.
  • Not only that, optimization is also an issue. Nowadays they just slap dlss or fsr support to justify high requirements.

You've been killing it lately, Falcon. Love the presentation and enthusiasm
  • Falcon, you're a gaming oracle! Your knowledge goes so far back, you were there when cavemen started playing rock, paper, scissors.

For the problem of shaders, do what atomic heart did, precompile shaders on first launch. The game looked stunning and ran well.
  • What I love about PC gaming is that I do NOT have to worry about "backwards compatibility" or having to "re-buy" games over and over again on newer hardware. Yes, newer gaming consoles SEEM to understand "backwards compatibility" much more nowadays, but I still I like the convenience of seeing the SAME games I bought ages ago in one place (being my Steam library) and also being playable to this very day whenever I want.

3 reasons denvuo, direct x 12, and shader complication. I guess you can add poor optimization and ray tracing implementation, but it's hard to tell unless it's broken on all platforms.

So nice to hear someone discuss video games/issues thoughtfully with clear examples and info

As far as games releasing unfinished, I have really appreciated what Larian Studios is doing with BG3. Developer honesty and sincerity with how its going to develop the game, keeping players intrigued with patches to early access, and getting information about the game out there to players in as quick a way as possible when there is news to be had. Choice moves, Larian.
  • Great informative video really enjoyed hearing way a complex set of problems was so well explained. Awesome
  • @zwippie92
Fully agreeing with you guys here. Worst thing is that the developer is usually the ones taking the most blame for it even though it could be because of the publishers setting a release date that the devs have no say in and then they have to release the game on that date no matter what. I'm surprised Hogwarts Legacy wasn't mentioned.
  • @corbvn373
really glad you guys spoke on this. the state of gaming has been weird the past couple years
  • @zoinksscoob97
