I filed my application online on March 21, 2022. Today (August 29, 2022) I had my civics test and my naturalization interview… I PASSED! Thank you everyone who operates this YouTube channel! I can’t tell you how much your videos have helped! To anyone else reading this, please don’t stress out, don’t be a bundle of nerves, and don’t get anxious… I was stressed out for the past five months for nothing! My interview lasted seriously less than five minutes and the Immigration Agent was really nice! Here’s what happened during my interview… I am blind, so my wife accompanied me. We walked into the room where both my wife and I were sworn in. The agent then took my fingerprints and a photo of me. He asked for my green card and my state issued ID. He did not ask for any other forms at all during the interview (But I did come prepared with everything like tax transcripts, birth certificates for me, my wife, and all our kids, passports, etc. just in case). He asked me to state my full legal name, and my birthdate. He then asked if I left the country any time within the last five years (my answer was “no”). Because I am blind I had an accommodation for the reading/writing portion of the test. Basically I had to spell “American Indians lived here first“ out loud for the agent, and that was it. He then started the civics test with the following questions: (1) What is “Freedom of Religion”? (2) Why does the flag have 50 stars? (3) What did Susan B Anthony do? (4) Who is in charge of the Executive branch? (5) What are the two major political parties in the United States? (6) What political party does the current President belong to? I answered the first six questions correctly, so he didn’t ask anymore after that. He then asked me how I went blind (brain tumor), he asked how long my wife and I have been married, and asked how my youngest daughter was doing. He then ran through all the yes or no questions really quickly on the N400 form… He literally read all the questions in less than a minute and told me to stop him if any of my answers are “Yes”. He then asked me if I’ve ever been arrested (no), then asked if I’ve ever been pulled over by the police. I told him I am blind now so I obviously don’t drive anymore, but in my early 20s I was pulled over by the police several times (speeding, running a red light, and once for having a broken tail light) but was only given a verbal warning each time with no citation issued. He didn’t ask me to define any words at all. He then asked me if I support the US Constitution, and if I’m willing to take the Oath of Allegiance to which I both answered “Yes“. My wife reviewed all the forms for me, I then had to sign the paperwork on the digital pad and that was it! He then congratulated me and told me that my Oath of Allegiance ceremony will be this Thursday at 8:30 AM. The entire process was literally less than five minutes! The first thing I’m going to do after officially becoming a US citizen on Thursday is to register to vote! Just some background on me: I came to the United States in 1984 as a refugee under political asylum. I’m now 42 years old, been married for 16+ years, and have three daughters. Good luck to everyone on your naturalization journey!
