Monsieur Periné: NPR Music Tiny Desk Concert

Monsieur Periné hails from Colombia, a country known for its Afro-Colombian cumbia, as well as New York-style salsa. Instead, however, the band has embraced 1920s-era, guitar-driven jazz from the U.S. The unlikely inspiration has resulted in a large and international following, as well as a Latin Grammy not too long ago: Monsieur Periné was named 2015's Best New Artist.
Words don't do this band justice. Play the video and discover Monsieur Periné's magic for yourself.

This is the best tiny desk concert going. I don't speak Spanish. This isn't my favorite genre. But man, this group, their energy, this performance. Absolute magic and should be on display to the world. Just fantastic music for anyone to listen to. Well deserved success coming their way.

This band is the best way to explain Colombian culture to the world. We sit in the middle of this continent, where from north to south: jazz, blues, rock & roll, bolero, rancheras, cumbia and tropical music come together.

I come from far away land in indonesia, don't understand any words, but this is make me happy, thanks colombia 🇮🇩🇨🇴

Una banda muy infravalorada. Debería tener mucho más protagonismo en la escena musical nacional. Son todos muy buenos músicos, derrochan talento por donde se miren. Cata, la joya de la corona ❤

I want to be Colombian when I grow up.

La mejor cosa que hice como brasileña fue aprender español y abrirme para toda la hermosa cultura que está al rededor de mi país... ❤ I love NPR music ❤ thank you so much ❤
-
And then you realize that the talented guy you've seen on the A train platform in NYC for at least a year playing the clarinet is the clarinet player of Monsieur Periné...😊
-
the happiest bassist I've ever seen

The Jazz, the swing, the voice, that latin flavor. Such personality. One great moment for Colombia. Some classy and high quality sound there. Thank you NPR. You are always getting the best.
