What is the Pauper format? Pauper is a format which only uses common cards. With the exception of a small banlist, any card that has been printed at the common rarity level in a set or product.

Other than that, Pauper is like most other games of constructed Magic: Decks must consist of a minimum of 60 cards with an optional 15 card sideboard, and so forth.

I think it is a perfect time to remake this video with some more up to date deck references and prices! This format is only getting better!!
  • @VioStarclad
Everyone please push for Pauper events at your FNM. It would finally give us a format free of pay-to-win.
  • @ares6037
Pauper. The only budget Magic the Gathering format.
  • @sephyrias883
Pauper is the best competitive format. There is no "pay-to-win" aspect in it, it is very easy to get into and it is slower than the other formats, meaning that the games are intriguing to play and watch as well. The decks are so cheap that basicly everyone can make a "top tier" pauper deck. I mean, a single Mana Crypt, Tarmogoyf, heck, even some lands cost more than a pauper deck.
  • Just thank you for exposing pauper to a larger group of player. It's such a great format
  • @TheMagachef
My all-time favorite format was featured...YES! A hundred gratitudes, Professor! :D
  • @ms.samlake7371
THIS is what should be the most popular "non-sanctioned paper format", not "tiny leaders".
  • Thank you, in another videos I ask if you could show us a deck that wins but isn't like 100-200$ but now you showed us a whole format that is very very cheap. Thank you so much!
  • this channel has been amazing in my journey to become a magic player. been playing some pauper and i love it.
  • @tapedrice7880
Professor, your channel is simply the best of the best.
  • Thank you professor I've been waiting for this one. Pauper is how I got back into magic with my 14 year old daughter while going through chemotherapy. It's funny she's runs a similar Delver deck to the one in your video. I myself like monk black and also use Coumbajj Witches along with oubliette and grey merch. The owner of my lgs even makes and sells pauper deck for $7. It's the perfect way to get into the game. I just wish it had more of a presence in paper.

Best magic channel on the web honestly, what a pleasant man to listen too. May i ask i love Arcanis the omnipotent, but my local play group calls me a casual for running him in my flicker U/W deck. Is arcanis not worth playing jsut because he's 6 mana? the drawing cards, bonus and 3/4 body allowing him to get down and dirty i think he's great :\
  • @benbeggs8847
You are the reason I got into pauper professor. Please keep making deck techs!!!
  • @sampo7677
Thanks for shining a light on Pauper Professor! It's an amazing format with great players!
  • @clarkberman3139
My favorite part about these Kinds of videos is that besides the fact that they are incredibly well made and informative, they add so many people to the community of a great format and help pre existing player's (in this case pauper) cards go up on value which really helps everyone.
  • @ballzock1039
Thank you so much Tolarian. So many formats that I never knew existed and can be fun. Pauper is perfect! My community is somewhat poor so we can barely afford $130 decks at max. Can't wait till I go to my friends and introduce to them pauper! Thank you
  • @bobcatdad5664
Thank you Professor. This video randomly popped into my feed about 2 weeks ago. And after watching it I decided to come back to Magic (which I left in 1996). Thank you for bringing me back.
  • Even though I am a seasoned Magic player, every one of your videos always has something new to me, or something to get me thinking.  Great job!
  • @yugman95
Yes this gets me so excited to start grinding pauper dailies on MTGO and hopefully get to posting it as content on youtube since there aren't many youtubers who have pauper videos.
