History of Truckee, CA

Intercontinental Railway
Truckee has been a railroad town since the early days of western railroading. In the 1860s, Truckee played an important role as the eastern staging point during the Central Pacific Railroad's construction of the transcontinental railroad eastward from Sacramento.

Downtown Truckee
Truckee is listed on the National register of Historic Places and proudly retains its historic charm with well-preserved circa 1800’s architecture that serves as a backdrop to one of the west’s most charming mountain towns.

Development / Town Incorporation
After discussing and voting on self-rule and incorporation for 120 years, the Town of Truckee incorporated in 1993.

    I can’t imagine a better time and place to grow up than in Truckee. My dad was the Park supervisor in the ‘80’s. I have great memories of spending summers going to work with dad and “helping” with whatever projects were going on. I seem to recall the amphitheater being built during his stint. Graduated high school in ‘87. It’s crazy to see all the development around Donner Lake, kinda sad really. Take care of my hometown people.

    Truckee is gorgeous I've seen it in winter and will return for spring or summer
  • They said they would never sell around the lake. My family loved Donner Lake picnics on the weekends. 1965 first time.
