Sammy Hagar a true rock star fronting bands like Van Halen, Montrose, as well as his solo career. He also sold his tequila brand for a whopping $97 million. He’s awesome and this was a lot of fun!

We talk about his time with Eddie Van Halen, living between Jerry Garcia and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead. He talks about how Alex Van Halen and Eddie Van Halen would come to blows in rehearsals.

My dad was a former sound engineer for Sammy through his entire solo career and 5150 with van halen.... 2 years ago his house burnt down in a wild fire and Sammy donated to help him and my mom get back on their feet!... Sammy is a honestly genuine nice guy and never forgets anybody who was in his circle and takes care of them the best he can.... Hagar and VH forever!!

12 years ago my US Marine son stationed in Hawaii sends me a pic in the middle of the night. It’s him and Sammy in a bar. Seconds later the phone rings and Sammy says “Good morning dad!” We talked for about five or so minutes he’s telling me how much he appreciated my son’s service (he just got back from a tour in Afghanistan) and then the dude starts asking about the rest of my family and how they’re doing. No shit this guy’s the real deal. Really really nice.

Our family was a recipient of emergency funds from Sammy Hagar in Hawaii. We had an emergency medical flight for our daughter from Maui to Oahu. The hospital social worker gave us a $300 check to help with expenses for whatever the family needs when away from home on a different island and a card to write a thank you to Sammy Hagar. Brings tears to my eyes remembering this. So it is exactly how he tells it. Money used directly to the people in need. God Bless him and his Ohana!

No shot this man is 75!!! looks in his 50's at best. What a legendary personality/all round great human being. 10/10 interview.
  • @strongandco
Sammy and Michael Anthony come across as some of the nicest guys in the rock business. Great Interview!

Sammy in VH was a beast covering the stage. Running from 1 side to the other while singing the high vocals, tons of endurance.
  • I wish I could thank Sammy for everything. I saw Montrose several times in the 70's . My little brother loved him. He was killed in an accident at 41 . One of his favorite treasures was a guitar pick from Marching to Mars tour. And he loved Van Halen. Sammy is right. The 70's was the best time for concerts. I saw them all.
  • Sammy is wealthy enough to let it change him, but he chooses to be grounded and hasn't forgotten where he came from. He goes out of his way to help those who truly need it. He Knows how to let things go.
  • Thank you Steve O, for putting this out and talking with Mr. Hagar. Just an unbelievable podcast. From Montrose to his solo albums, to Van Halen, and now today. You talked about a lot of insightful topics. He is a cool person! What a life. 5150!

  • @timmc6009
I can sit and listen to Sammy all night long. Just sounds like a truly genuine good guy. Would love to meet him one day.
  • Sammy is a total Rock Star. Met him backstage and would have thought we had been friends for years. So down to earth very nice makes you feel so comfortable. The man gets it. Totally support anything he is involved with. Good interview.
  • @er7739
My Mom just heard Steve-O's voice and asked "why are you watching Whoopi Goldberg?" 😂
  • I usually watch when Sammy's doing an interview, I've just come to realize it doesn't matter who's interviewing this man there's something about Sammy, call it what you want he has it, he pulls you in, you just want to listen to all the stories, you can't help but to like this man😉

I am in really bad health. So I figured even though I know Sammy won't see this, or maybe not even care. I wanted to say this to him. Sammy, I am 43. My brother got me into Han Halen when I was about 16 so in 96. At first I heard DLR singing, and it was good. I will admit that. But then he got me into the Van Hagar songs, and man... it blew me away. Made me a huge fan. And your music has helped me a lot. I have depression, and tried to kill myself in the past a few times. But as you can see, I even failed at that, lol. But you music. It always sooths me, to my soul And I thank you so much for that. I had a triple bypass done when I was 34. I have diabetes. I am disabled, and live off of SSI. Stuck in apartments, and will never know what it is like to have my own home. But I have your music, and it helps me, if anything else it sooths me. So i wanted to say thank you one more time. Be blessed if you see this but not putting any stock into it. God Bless my friend and sorry for my rambles. Some times it is hard for me to put how I feel into words. On a side note, even at 43 and in very bad health. My wife got me a cheap guitar off Amazon, and I am going to try and learn to play it as I love music so much and always wanted to learn. If I could play even a quarter as good as you or Eddie... man that would be awesome. Steve-o I love you too man, you crazy ass! You and the rest of Jackass has brough so much laughs into my life. Thank you!
  • Sammy donated to Ranken Jordan Children's Hospital in St.Louis, he did so without any fanfare or press! St.louis loves you Sammy!!!
  • What a good hearted dude. There is a reason he's doing so good in life. Rock on
  • @JasonNation72
Between the 36 and 38 minute mark, he talks about how much he cares about his voice and it really shows. You can listen to "Bad Motor Scooter" which was recorded in 1973, and listen to a live version from last year and is voice is practically the same. It's awe inspiring!
  • Saw a couple on the beach last week in the OC...asked what type of dog they had...the guy said a mini yorkie...it was Sammy. We talked for a bit...such a cool, genuine guy! Looks great for 75 too!
