Thanos comes from the name, Thanatos, the God of Death. Ridley is known as the Cunning God of Death. So Thanos Dragon is actually quite appropriate.

"'Go meat your parents' says ridley. that was a little mean actually." That's actually something ridley would say too! in the manga, ridley says, the first time he fights samus, "I had to eat the corpses to survive on that space colony. I used their cells to replace my own. So you could say that your parents are still a part of me!" ridley points to his elbow "Is your mother here?" points to leg "Or is she right here?!" ridley is an absolute sadist. and I love him for that.

Samus lays on the floor, beaten and bloody, her armour destroyed. Her Zero Suit is torn along the stomach, three diagonal gashes in her gut from just one swing of the dragon's claws. She's barely breathing. She weakly holds herself up on her hands, looking up at the beastly space pirate she called Ridley. Samus: "H-How...? How could you get...this s-strong...?" The ruthless purple beast loomed over her, lowering himself down until his face was inches from hers, his razor-sharp teeth bared. He granted his arch-nemesis her last question, answering with a low growl in his voice. Ridley: "I drink Smash Milk."
