So he can’t get a permit because it’s not up to standard to live in and he can’t evict the tenant because he doesn’t have a permit. Why is that tenant allowed to stay there by the law if it isn’t in livable condition?!
  • @Stickfigure414
This kind of issue is a nightmare. I understand the idea of having protections for renters against malicious owners but there NEEDS to be protection for owners against people like this too.
  • @kenrose2523
This is why I'll NEVER buy real estate in the state of California.
  • @moistpeanut5986
Laws that make absolutely no sense. How is it possible there is a legality for people that dont pay their rent to remain in a place that is not theirs?
  • @saulgoodman2018
That is called black mail. She should be kicked out. She is now trespassing.
  • This is ridiculous, and is exactly the reason I am not interested in buying up properties to rent out. It's too much of a hassle.
  • @andrewbalcom1117
I don't understand why as soon as the unit is deemed an illegal rental, why isn't the "tenant" immediately removed? Seems to me that the city is causing the "victim" / "tenant" to be stuck in an illegal unit that could be unsafe. They should be removed so the owner can make repairs, get the appropriate permits (and CO), or demolish the structure.
  • Some people get too comfortable in some homes that they feel they are entitled to live rent free even while they have the money for rent.
  • I agree with all of your comments! Such a crazy story, and by the sounds of things… it will drag out quite a bit longer. Also thanks for the shout out Graham. I’ve got to admit, pretty cool feeling to see my video featured on your channel. ✌🏻
  • @2MANYCARS
I'd hire "professional" to "take care" of the tenant.
  • These type of people need to go to jail and be forced into labor until they pay the landlord back. This is outrageous.
  • @fireoptions
You call your balkan friends and make the tenant "understand" that it is best for all if they move.
  • @MrSudomacho
Sounds like extortion or blackmail - If they are asking for 100k 'or else', to me that's a criminal act beyond any tenant rights. They've become are a criminal occupying a property illegally. Also the whole "you can sue them but the have nothing to win" goes both ways - not saying you can abuse this to your advantage.

This video could be subtitled “Why I’ll Never Own Residential Rental Properties”. Many people are just awful, and know how to take advantage of landlord-tenant laws (which are skewed towards renters in the first place).
  • @kevinparks2286
Stories like this is why I’ll likely never get into rentals even though I’ve always been interested in real estate. Far more likely to stick to REITS for that exposure
  • @GetOffMyy
Love these vids about rental properties
  • @samperry6632
If the tenant is not willing to let the property owner resolve the issues that are preventing them from paying rent, then why do they have any case to stay? Leave it to CA to let the criminals win. Sorry CA, good luck to those of you that choose to stay and try to win back your state!
  • @YaBoiMoustafa
She’ll get the divine punishment she deserves. These people with no morals will take advantage of a flawed law system and completely ignore karma. She’ll get what’s coming to her
  • @jonm80
I remember another story where some homeowner had a situation like this, and somehow dual rented the same house with another person they knew that purposely would be obnoxious to the point the squatter left the property.
