I've been wanting to make custom LED tail lights for our Honda Beat for so long and I'm glad we finally got around to finishing them. We went for a modern, VIP style tail light design and even made a new lens to complete the look!

Thanks to Automotive Anatomy for the rolling footage!

  • Great video. What a ton of work. Results look great, very unique. I've never met a car guy that wants to build a car identical to someone else's. (Excluding movie prop cars.) That butyl tape is interesting stuff. Mahalo for sharing! : )
  • Just a heads up for anyone wanting to do this, you gotta have white reverse lights. Other than that, great build and the final result looks great. Though id definately go with the second revision you mention in the video. I personally prefer seperate amber turn signals. The combo turn and brake lights add ambiguity to the system. Not to mention in europe you have to have amber turn signals anyway
  • And to think I was about to drop $700 for some custom led tail lights. This is just what I was looking for!!!

I really like this. Personally I would've used less leds for regular tail lights and then used more for the brake portion. That way it's easier for cars behind you to know when you're braking. Too small of a brake light can be really hard to notice.
  • legitimately one of the best, most accessible diy videos Ive ever seen about tail light mods that go this deep. jeebus nice work
  • Ive always considered amber LEDs for rear turn signal to be superior and wish cars in America would do this more instead of red turn signals

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR! There's so many videos out there that talk about making custom taillights, but none of them ever outline the entire process start to finish. They're always either using premade parts, or only talk about the tech or removing/installing the lens. Truly incredible work, and I applaud you for showing and reflecting upon your mistakes. Keep it up!
  • Bro this video is great editing, not boring at all, keep up the good work! I was exactly looking for something like this.

For future, you can make curved LED shapes by sticking the LED tape along the side of the C-shaped foil you cut, although you would actually use "<"-shaped foil at 45° angle so that the LEDs reflect back at a 90° angle. This is how we installed curved-led strips around a bar at my work. The factory led-fixture was flexible, and it was placed at 90° in the flexible housing, with a 45° reflective surface to reflect more light DOWN, and give a nice wash of the bar wall.

I very rarely comment on videos but this was too impressive not to. Been delving into automotive DIY over the past 10ish years (wiring, LEDs, etc) and always dreamt of being able to do this. Having unique taste and being hardheaded is a deadly combo but often leads to incredible results. Awesome job dude and thank you!

Amazing! I've been mulling over how to make custom taillights for my '89 Celica and this just popped up in my feed! Great video, nice that you didn't shy away from showing the jank.

This is incredible man. I LOVE seeing passionate people make what they want in their own shops. This is going in my playlist for when I finally get the guts to do it myself lol
  • this really is one of those "trust the method" sort of things hey? it would be so intimidating when youre half way through one, and then knowing you need to make the other one match. Really impressive. Looks sweet!
  • Fellow automotive Youtuber here and I must say, your video is awesome. Great quality, great shots, great editing, and great commentary. Keep up the great work and wishing you the best with your channel. 😎🤙🏼

Excellent video man, I've been looking to do this for a friends car and I really like your process! Thanks for detailing it so well!
  • @morpheon_xyz
For someone who's planning on doing a custom job on my own car, this has definitely been an informative video regarding the process and things to keep in mind. Mine will however be much more complex, but that's exactly why something like this helps a lot. Thank you

Worked out better than I expected, this is something I’ve wanted to try for ages. There are ways you can get white and orange to show through a red lens, lots of modern cars pull this off, I believe there’s a colour filter over the LEDs to cancel out the red. Good work 👍👍
  • @X.BMW.4.EVER.X
That looks GREAT on the Beat, great work man 👍🏼
