"they just got married, tho", now imagine watching a whole season solely of that wedding, to have it fall apart in 15 minutes of the very last episode.

"Don’t spend nine years making us get excited about a character, spend a season making us fall in love with her and then giving her a death off screen for a ship that sunk years ago", as someone put it.
  • dylan saying “is he attractive enough to be this insane?” is like barney’s hot/crazy chick diagram lmaoo
  • @emcoates9290
the thing about barney is after 9 seasons his character didnt just mature when he had the baby, there was 9 seasons of character DEVELOPMENT..... that the series finale just RUINED in seconds. and turned him back to S1 barney. to then "mature" him again in 5 seconds. it was criminal how they ruined his character

I just had war flashbacks to the BETRAYAL I felt when the series finale came out. I felt just as confused and annoyed as you did, but I put in way more than one hour into it. trust me, dedicating a whole season to a wedding and having them divorce the next episode doesn't work. it also doesn't work to have a season where you show us how great the mom is and then have her killed off. I swear, it started feeling like they just added her in so Ted could have kids and then go back to Robin

Do you guys remember that episode where Barney literally explained the whole show in 52 seconds? 😭

Bro this show didn’t deserve that horrible ending it got. I don’t think they needed to kill Tracy, she could’ve stayed alive and showed up in the future to tell the kids that dinner was ready, she then would say “is he still telling this story?” And then we go outside and see the old gang one last time. That’s my ideal HIMYM ending.
  • “did I just skip 9 seasons and not miss a thing!?” Literally! All that character development just to go back to a concept they clearly had at episode 1! 💔
  • The fact that Dylan didn’t sit through the 9 seasons that we all did and STILL hated the ending just as much really says something about just how godawful it was.
  • @Vienna1369
They did the mother wrong with that ending, Robin and Barney should of stayed together, they were literally meant for each other
  • Love the fact that he had the exact same reaction as alot of fans... But he had the joy of only wasting an hour or two of his life and not 9 years like some of us did.
  • Honestly maybe Tracy dying wouldn’t have been so bad if it was just a fond look back on everything she gave Ted. And how it took him so long to talk about it because he was grieving, but now he’s finally able to be at peace about it. The whole thing with Robin soured it completely.
  • what really sucks about the last season is both Barney and Robin had so much development and it focuses completely on their wedding and how they’re perfect for each other just to be thrown out in the last two episodes for no reason

What a lot of us hated about this show is it essentially spent two or three seasons maturing Barney only to have him revert back to season one Barney in a span of a few seconds. As well as the entire final season being based around robin and Barney’s wedding only to have it end in divorce. Like wtf were the writers doing? And the mother was introduced on the final episode of the eighthseason I believe. She appeared in almost the entirety of the final season sporadically.

“Is this endearing? I think no. But she’s kinda into it? Then again... she’s been written to be into it.” Dylan describing almost all female love-interests 😂
  • This show did such a good job at maintaining consistency with Lily’s hair. Like it’s actually insane how it’s always accurate especially since they don’t make this effort with anyone else.
  • "is he attractive enough to get away with something this creepy" Dylan inadvertently pre-empting Barney's crazy/hotness scale 🙃

The problem with the ending is that the writers had locked themselves into it. With the format of Ted telling the story to his kids in the future, they had to film all the time of him talking to them a the beginning so it wouldn't look like they aged. The problem is they didn't have the entire show written out at that point. They couldn't predict how the characters would develop and grow, so when they got to the end they had to bend back their character arcs to fit the original ending instead of creating a new one that fits their development which is why it's so unsatisfying for the viewers. Personally, I think they should've let the kids age and just leaned into it for comedic effect. Like the jokes where the kids say "it feels like you've been telling us this story for years" they also could've said "yeah I feel like I've aged four years" and that's just part of the joke because we've seen them age but in the story it's still this one night that Ted decided to tell his kids how he met their mother. It would've been meta and funny! Then the writers would have more freedom to come up with a more satisfying ending. God, you can really tell this was a good show that fell through on delivery. This entire comment section is full of paragraphs lmao.

Why i hate the ending so much is the fact that the ending made Tracy a "step". The biggest problem between Ted and Robin is the fact that one of them wants kids and the other doesn't. So the ending just makes it like the mother is just a way to make Ted have kids and for Robin not to be the mother of those kids. It makes it like Tracy wasn't Ted's soulmate or the love his life, she was just a STEP to have Robin and Ted end up together. One of things that piss me off is the fact that there are so many references in the show about how Robin and Ted arent meant to be together (for example the olive theory being disproved because Robin started to like olives) and also why the hell does Marshall keep trying to convinve Ted to go after Robin. Does he not get that ROBIN DOESN'T LOVE TED ANYMORE. To me that was one of the worst things Marshall did to Ted. About Barney and Robin though you can see they were always in love with eachother while with Ted and Robin it was one-sided

In the first half you seemed adamant that Ted's behaviour was creepy though at one point you asked if he was endearing and an episode of HIMYM actually talks about it, the show says that if both people are into each other, then a big romantic gesture works: Dobler, but if one person isn't into the other, the same gesture comes off serial-killer crazy: Dahmer. I've always thought it was so interesting that this concept directly applies to Ted's one-sided relationship with Robin in season 1
