BMW vs Mercedes Reliability! (Surprise Winner)

Published 2024-07-03
It's Mercedes vs BMW reliability, and you might not expect who I'm picking as the more reliable luxury car brand. One of these car brands aren't going to last as long as far as I'm concerned! So if you're asking yourself if Mercedes is worth it or if BMW is worth it, this video will get you squared away.

  • At the end of the day, Scotty Kilmer would say "These are both endless money pits"!!!

Current gen B48 & B58 BMW is the way to go brand new or used with low miles.

Looked at several Mercedes SUV models recently and wasn’t impressed: Hollow sounding doors, weak AC and the salesperson tried (and failed) to do voice control commands. BMW (for me) was much more impressive and that’s the direction we took. Fun fact about the B58: In Comfort Mode, I’m running high 20’s around town and low 30’s on hywy- Given the power/smoothness, I think that’s simply amazing

From experience I totally agree. I’ve had my fair share of both the brands but BMW takes the win for sure.
  • BMW have tons of problems. I have owned a Benz S450 with Km 302,000 now. It’s still a tank. 👍

Snow in early July? And no new leaves on the trees?
  • The only BMW thats more reliable than a Mercedes is a 2004 Toyota Camry 😂

There are NO French built 2.0L Turbo engines in ANY Mercedes car in North America. The only French built engines are the 1.6L and smaller (1.3L 1.5L) namely the OM626, M282 and OM 608 and 607

Also, depends on the average driver on each brand, nobody talks about that. But its not the same type of driver in a BMW than a Toyota, Merc, etc. Bimmers are usually driven harder than others for bad or good. I currently have a b48 tuned for about 20k km and has proven its reliability.
  • Great review/brand comparison. Guessing it’s a bit dated as “Consumer Reports” on its Most Reliable List in 2023 and in the April 2024 magazine, has BMW at #1 (based on customer reviews, fit & finish, track performance & “green” issues). This year, C.R. also said they could not recommend any Mercedes model. Oh-oh!!!
  • @drstevej2527
BMW has surpassed Honda in reliability in Consumer Reports rankings. It’s far ahead of Audi or Merc. Only Porsche is more reliable. Also please don’t compare high performance cars with a Lexus, Acura or Infinity. BMW makes high performance cars in every category of vehicle so yes it’s going to cost more to fix if something goes wrong.

B48 all the way. Gave my daughter a 320 and my 430i is over 126k and still solid

If you really want the Merc quality you need to grab E-Class or above. I don't know much about the SUVs, because they are trash for me from any brand but the W212 is an undestructable bone especially the Diesel OM642 or OM651 Engines. BMW did alot of mistakes in their quality of manufacturing. But anything after 2015 is actually totally fine. Its just the fact that BMWs manufactured before 2020 all feel very outdated and like its from the last 2 centuries compared to anything that came from Merc Starting 2016 from E-Class and above.
  • @Flashpoint2
Thanks for another great video. I never would have thought that BMW was a more reliable brand. I have stayed away from the BMW brand because everybody that I have known personally (only 2 people) that has had a vehicle where the engine caught fire has been people that were driving BMW vehicles.
  • @Turbin8r
How solid are BMW G20 330i? What’s the highest mileage you’ve seen? Thnx
  • @keensee
As one who owns and services both Honda and BMW, I'm impressed with BMWs build quality and agree with CR's latest rankings for putting BMW ahead of Honda. Take Scotty Kilmer's word with a GIANT grain of salt, what he spoke about BMW might be true 20 years ago but CR knows way better about data and the latest trends.
  • Had a bmw once and never again.. amazing driving machine but lots of niggling electronic issues. 2months in and the window wouldn't close. Drove in heavy rain and the thing was never the same. My pal bought a w212 and has never looked back..
