I Watched EVERY Pokémon Movie: The Golden Era

the ash's mortality criteria is so real because ash dying and being physically harmed or in dangerous situations was an extremely critical part of my enjoyment of the anime as a kid

The reason Hoopa sucked so much is because the executives ruined it. It was supposed to be a comfy movie about Hoopa finding its way in the world and being taught how to fit in by its caretakers, but then some executives came along and they said, "we've got these games called Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire coming out and you can catch all these legendaries in them, so we're going to need you to go ahead and put a Legendary Pokemon kaiju battle in your movie to make kids buy our games." That's why the kaijus just stop the movie dead, they're a plot tumor of the worst kind. The sad part is that the movie they wanted to make would probably have been good, but no, we've got to have money, so we get the worst one instead. Volcanion had so little meddling that it makes me think even the executives realize how badly they destroyed the Hoopa movie with their crap.

I still find Ash's mortality funny 🤣. I cried when Dakrai died and cried when Zoroark died. Zorua's begging strung at my heartstrings 😢.

The mewtwo from the black and white movies is confirmed to be a different mewtwo from the original movie which is why Ash knew who she was a mewtwo but mewtwo didn't know who Ash was. She was created by team flare that's why she can mega evolve. she also has a special episode that features that eeveelutions trainer from the gen 5 anime

Finally, someone else who understands my blinding hatred of Hoopa. You'd think a movie prominently featuring Shiny Mega Rayquaza would be interesting, but it's somehow sleep inducing. Honestly an incredible feat of filmmaking

I genuinly am confused how the Sinnoh movies spaced out the theme songs, cause sinnoh has 4 theme songs/Seasons I think, but the Darkrai Movie has "We will be heroes" as the theme song despite being the first movie, entirely skipping the first theme song, so now I wonder what happened for the next 3 movies and what their songs were. Or maybe the zoroark movie just didn't have a theme song.

I personally disagree with your thoughts on hoopa and the clash of ages; but I completely understand from where you and most people come from. It’s not my favorite by far, but for me it’s kind of just dumb fun.

I loved the last part when I watched it last week. You’ve got a knack for writing and editing. Not trying to hard to fish for jokes, you just let them come naturally. Good stuff man

I can't believe Pokemon was so ahead of its time that it predicted the One Piece. This truly was the best movie.

I’m actually really happy that victini and reshiram got such a high rating, as that was my favorite movie growing up and it’s still one of my favorites to this day (tied with mystery of mew because I think the tree of beginning is cool and it has Cradily in it) Though I like the victini and zekrom version slightly more because Damien has a Reuniclus in that version and Reuniclus is a peak Pokémon.

The Volcanion movie is funny! So much slapstick potential in Ash being dragged around by a giant steampunk monster with the temperament of a grumpy grandpa, and they take full advantage of it!

13:28 I kinda wished you discussed the plot a tiny bit for this because if a new viewer saw this they probably wouldnt realize that the joke was they are the same movie. Also the fact that Pokemon went kinda hard with the "parralel worlds" theme with Black and White which is why we have two versions of the same movie

I'm genuinely surprised how many of the movies from this era I'd seen: all the gen 4 and two of the 6 movies. I was NOT watching either of the anime series at the time. They must've aired on tv or something...? In other news, still hotly anticipating/dreading your thoughts on The Power of Us. IMO it is by far the best movie in the series. If not for Pokemon the Origin, it would be the single best piece of animated pokemon content.
