There are a LOT of comments about Mojang here...i want to make it clear: This is video is not meant to seriously "beat" Mojang. Obviously, this "update" has neither the amount of content, or the amount of quality control. I used a weird metric to measure this simply to create an interesting goal for the video, but to GENUINELY compare my work to a Mojang update is grossly short-sighted. Mojang has to create content for 2 versions of the game, they have to ensure it is well balanced and doesnt change the core gameplay, and they have to make sure it is both very well debugged and that it creates as little lag as possible. I just simply took any cool idea i had and threw it in the game, and the work ive done here would NOT be at all worthy of being a real update. (Maybe parts of it would be cool for a real one, but thats not the point) Im also not going to say that Mojang couldnt do better. BUT, please do not use my light hearted video intended for fun to disparage Mojang. Its not a fair comparison.

I love the mod except one thing. The sea horses should be Slower than the submarine so you have a choice. Faster speed or strength.

Sick datapack, really impressive content that actually fits really well.

The one thing I always want with ocean based minecraft content is some sort of deep abys biome. I love subnautica, and I love that feeling of sinking down as the sun dims and you still can't see the bottom, just the emptiness around you. Then that sudden calm when you finally reach the bottom and everything feels isolated.

I wish they added - like the Deep Dark - to the Ocean. Like ultra deep ocean areas/Mariana Trench type areas. With loot, new mob/s, scary fish/monsters, super dark and you need a special torch/lighting to explore it.

One of the sickest datapacks I've ever seen! Take notes Mojang πŸ“

To those asking, i will not be making a mod edition of this! Data packing has some flaws, but it also has some great perks, like being able to be played in multiplayer without custom clients, for instance. And personally, i find it a lot more fun! Data packs get a very bad reputation, but the reality is they are very capable modding options, its just that the support and tools are not nearly as established as traditional modding. My channel is dedicated to showing what can be done with data packs, to show people it is a valid and good option for many applications!

my man really did better than mojang last few years with data pack and thought we wouldnt notice πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€
  • @Styrac
Ocean villages are such a genius yet obvious addition, I love it
  • @Locasta15
These are genuinely incredible! Have you ever thought about building your own block-based survival game from scratch so you don't have to rely on the hacks, tricks and workarounds for using datapacks? (That's a MA-HOOSIVE task of course)
  • @bluecrayfish2081
This is a really cool datapack! It feels more like a mod than a datapack haha
  • @Challenger10K
You are so underated for the quality of content you make you should have at least 100k subs. Spending 2 months on a data pack is fantastic great job it looks really cool!
  • @spookycoop276
better work than Mojang has done in years! Keep it up!
  • Amazing datapack and video! The features are so original and fit very well together. Then everything is brought to life by the sublime editing.
  • @teslax2377
If Mojang had one person with the same desire to work, motivation and conviction for any part of creative process and development (art design, game design, feature concept, debugging, etc) as you have we would have updates the level of Village and Pillage or Nether Update each half year or even less.
  • @thepigeonman_
This should get way more views, crazy effort put into it. Cant wait to try out the data pack
  • @doovid_
This is insane! I can't believe you actually did all of that in a datapack!
  • @polypore6795
I love the music you used in this! And Atlantis looks so pretty. Great job!
  • My good sir. Please make an overhaul datapack for EVERYTHING. This is the coolest thing ever.

Great work. Deep sea needs more dangers and the Kraken is a perfect addition. And i like the mines - although i would look to replace them with something that feels more like Minecraft, e.g. a plant that has explosive spores. Mines feel too modern world warfare to me. Mobility with the sub and sea horses is important when players need to search the oceans. But as you said they are similar - and i would either only keep one of them or give them distinct disadvantages to have players chose their playstyle. Like Infinity vs Mending. I'm a big fan of exploration, so finding a broken down sub that you have to repair sounds fun (also city of Atlantis!!)). Maybe the key difference would be damage, i.e. subs need to be repaired with iron while sea horses require potions. And subs would be a bit more clunky to steer but protect you from damage. Or something like that. And i love the Eldritch Core trade off with permanent hunger. God tier item, but you can't use it forever because it will consume you.
