Never knew of this version until hearing it in the closing sequence to an episode to True Detective, and then to discover that this singer is the original writer of the song. This is my favorite version now.

Years ago in the 1980s I was privileged to open for Mickey Newbury. He was the best solo performer I had ever seen. A master songwriter and performer.

Newberry's name is mentioned in the verse along with Hank Williams & Fred Rose ( Songwriter of Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain) " Between Hank William's Pain Songs & Newberry's Train Songs & Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain, Out in Luckenbach Texas ain't nobody feeling no pain. Didn't think I would like this version, but this performer is top of the line. Much better than Tom Jones' version or Willie Nelson's version. What a great artist!
