  • There was more to this particular move. The grain train at Bartlett only had 2 engines. After the train stopped at Woods on the power was cut off and ran light to the Elevator. They dropped off the 4th unit from the Northbound so that it could be added to the waiting train at Bartlett. The 3 remaining engines then reversed all the way back to Woodson, picked up the empty hoppers, returned to Jacksonville, tied up just beyond the elevator, waited for the loaded train to leave, then reversed to clear the elevator entrance before finally entering the elevator. They've done this sort of shuffle before. Last time they did that probably more than a month ago they dropped the empty hoppers just a little ways before that curve leading to this very crossing. It's just what you have to do when you're handling 100-car unit trains on a single-track branch with no passing sidings.
