Actually, it was translated from Portuguese since this is a Brazilian production. And yes, the city in the movie is indeed Rio de Janeiro. Also, the part where Carol says that they've never had chocolate on the menu before. That's a plothole, because, as mentioned earlier in the film, they serve chocolate ice cream.

Considering that this is in Rio, him trying to say the name of it 1000% got lost in translation in the beginning. Rio de Janeiro has the known nickname “Cidade Maravilhosa” (something like Marvelous City, which he mentions in the beginning), but unless you’re somewhat aware of brazilian culture, surely this will get lost in translation and just sound like the narrator is like “fine ass city this one huh?” Btw listen to the song “Cidade Maravilhosa” ❤ It’s considered Rio’s anthem
