Why were workers still on the bridge if vehicle traffic had been stopped for safety? They should have been immediately evacuated! God rest their souls and ease their families’ grief.

That last car crossed the bridge, and 40 seconds later, that bridge was gone... that's an odd thing to carry with you.

Maybe they should do what they do at train tracks and stop the cars before going on the bridge when a big carrier like this is going under the bridge. They can have arms that come down like they do for train tracks

This was a tragic accident, nothing more. My heart goes out to the affected families, friends and co-workers

So they weren't able to stop ALL traffic to the bridge? Were there still cars on the bridge? So confusing.

There was cars still on the bridge
  • @lemoncake..
Four of my friends were on a flight to Washington for a school trip while this happened, if they’re plane wasn’t delayed then the bus they took would have gone on that exact bridge around the time it collapsed 😨
  • Really hard? Indeed. Think of the people on the Kirch Bridge when it's brought down. Until it happens to you it feels like it's happening to a tree. My heart goes out to all the families.

Prayers for all who lost their loved ones! Speedy recovery to the injured!!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😪
  • Imagine the feeling of being one of the last people that made it off the bride alive and seeing that in your rear view mirror. Rest in peace whoever lost their lives in this tragedy.
  • This bridge was very poorly built. Bridges in Louisville are not as long as this one, and they have more support pillars, all concrete over steel than this bridge had. The oldest two have been hit multiple times by large barges and haven't fallen or lowered. The barge itself went down, one of them took two or three months to remove all the containers and pieces of the barge. The concrete around the steel has had to be repaired, but that's about all the damage that was done to the bridge. Guess I will stop complaining about the tolls since they didn't cut corners, making them vulnerable to hits like this. Which happens almost once a year. The shipping company AND the city need to face consequences. Shipping company because it was neglectful on the crews part and the city because of how poorly it was maintained. More support pillars should have been added many years ago. My heart goes out to the families who suffered a great loss.
  • As the ship have inspection before leaving port a look over before loading the containers.

Moral of the story "Life is a bless just don't take it for granted "
  • The insincerity of these news anchors and the tone and words they use are what gives me the chills!

Ship wasn't going toward the pillar until we see black smoke, meaning they turned the ship.
