Jimmy’s sweet on Elaine; Jimmy LOVES the Velvet Fog!
  • I just started down the Home Assistant road and im having sooooo much fun!
  • @dannywinget
This is great. I am thinking about moving everything over to HomeKit so I can use that for iPad/wall installation.
  • @joegadget670
Really like the status icons for door locks and garage doors. I rigged up a similar status report using night lights. This is a much more elegant solution.
  • @RetroAdz
You always seem to time your videos perfectly for me! About to move house and change my setup to HA. Thanks for the tips, especially editing the demo dashboards - didn't know that one!
  • @ShaneCreates
Reed, great video, as always! Thanks so much for the shout out.  Having a smart home dashboard is really cool. I love having that "birds eye" view of everything at a glance... especially late at night or early in the morning when I may not want to use smart speakers to control things. My kid has also used it. I have found my daughter using the wall-mounted iPad to make FaceTime calls to grandma in the past lol.
  • Looking excellent and really in depth my only concern that may be missing would be having the devices' child-friendly and safe (partially locked) to stop sticky fingers playing with your connected devices.
  • @pdmark311
If Paul is going to complain about how much hue cost, he is going to love brilliant... 99% sure it's going to be my next smart home add-on.

Tip: @05:15 I'd recommend connecting the charging station to a smart plug/socket. On a 15 minute automation check if the tablet >80-90% full and switch off the charger. Then (/15min) if the tablet is <30% turn it back on. This will extend the life of your device and more importantly, prevent the risk of the lithium battery swelling (or worse) due to constant charging. My laptop was on at work 24/7 during covid as I remoted into it from home. The battery in it swole up like a fat poptart so bad that it distorted the keyboard. Had to remove it and get another battery before it exploded/caused a fire :/

Always love your videos. Full of good information and dad humor. I like that you include your family in the fun & jokes. Good stuff as always.
  • @mikelytou
Holy cow, that floorplan view at 7:33 is awesome (if it actually does what I think it does).
  • @Kris__dk
Well, that’s just great 😩 Now I can’t live without that camera sense feature, geez thanks Reed 🤬🤣
  • @penelope-oe2vr
I had seen one set up with a PI behind a bathroom 2 way mirror. It was super cool. I think I'd like this in my master bathroom so I can look at everyone's calendars and the weather and everything while getting ready. I'm definitely going to make one of these.
  • Did I miss the hone assistant setup video? I’d love to see how you got to where you can use the tablet to control your smart home products. I feel like this is my next adventure down the rabbit hole
  • @MarkSmithMCS
I just got into HA as well. Unfortunately I installed some integrations that aren't letting it start properly anymore and I'm now kind of stumped on how to troubleshoot it. Thing is definitely a labor of love!!
  • @TAKV_gaming
I have been wanting to do a dashboard. Great vid! Love your content!
  • @MaxGoddur
The reason I love out-of-the-box solutions is if one device should fail a few years later I know I can just replace it with a new one rather than remembering what I did to get the device working with HA. Case in point I set up a computer with cameras and one failed after a couple of years and I ordered a replacement and was off and running in few hours.
  • @SmartHomeMakers
Love that you are getting into home assistant:) going to get that fire tablet too!
