From the critically acclaimed film, Dune 2. The Emperor arrives with his army of Sardaukar soldiers who are legendary for their skill in combat. The Emperor's allies House Harkonnen under the leadership of the Baron and Feyd also arrive to fight the Fremen. Little does the Emperor or the Harkonnens know that Paul has combined the forces of Northern and Southern Arrakis who believe that Paul is the Lisan Al-Gaib, the messiah who will lead the Fremen to paradise

  • I mean, the Sardaukar got the floor wiped in their blood in this battle, but the fact that they got back into formation and stood ground after literally getting nuked is impressive.
  • The way the sheer disbelief within the Sardaukar was described in the book is so accurately put to film....

The millions of fanatics charging over the sand is an epic sight. The emperor brought their entire army, but without considerable air cover they’d have been completely overwhelmed by sheer numbers.

That standard bearer (the man carrying the flag) must have felt truly blessed going into Arakeen like that. Think about it: he is carrying the banner of the Lisan al Giab, a hawk motif (hawks being one of the only non-Arakkis lifeforms that can survive there), following the man who trained Mua'duib how to fight! If that wasn't enough, he was there when Gurney Halleck fought and easily defeated the Beast Rabban in single combat! If that standard banner were a Southerner that moment might have been the dream of his ancestors and here he is, fulfilling that dream of freeing Arakkis under the watchful eye of the Lisan al Giab. Devotion like that is a powerful weapon if wielded correctly. It's no wonder then that the Harkonnen never stood a chance.

4:32 props to the guy on the right for doing a front flip to avoid a Sardaukar's blade swipe.

They explain this with a device called a Sand Compactor. It emulates the vibration frequency Sandworms use to move easily through Sand by effectively liquifying it. It’s a pretty major tool on the planet that’s clearly been incorporated into Freemen societal practices.

Weird to put a watermark on something you don’t have a copyright to.

SARDAUKER INFANTYMAN: Sir, I have to ask you about our deployment here. Why are we just standing in the open on the sand here in a massed formation? SARDAUKER OFFICER: ...

I can't wait for the Ditch Guy to review this battle and point at the lack of ditches and the masses of people running into each other without formations

The Fremen riding sandworms into battle like the greatest shock cavalry of all time is S-tier epic!

2:41 The irony of the Sardaukar is that they're absolutely the elite... in conventional warfare. Conventional warfare in Dune requires shields and close combat weaponry, with the killing blow being slowed down to pierce the shield. Shields can't be used on Arrakis due to the worms being drawn to them. Thus, these experts in shielded melee combat are completely incapable of dealing with foes who are used to unshielded combat in the desert. This is why the Emperor had to be lured to Arrakis: On their home ground where they could use standard tactics, the Sardaukar would win, just like when they stormed the Atreides estate. It was only by bringing them out in the desert where all of their advantages were neutralized could the Fremen win. Striking where your enemy is weakest and you are strongest is the most fundamental principles of strategic warfare, and Paul was taught very well by his mentors.

6:54 was so awesome in the theater, seeing the robed figures emerge from the haze. Totally unstoppable at this point.

Love this movie or hate it, seeing the worms come out of the storm on a Supermax screen was worth every penny.

All this happened cause Barron believed the south was inhabited, and never looked, Raban even point it out before he smashes one of his guys heads into the console. The Harkonens thought there waz like 50,000 freemen but the atreides mentat after talking to Duncan after Duncans scouting mission and telling Dukes counsel how big seeches are, says there could be millions of freemen.
  • On every other world, the Sardukar could turn on their personal shields and their fighting style was based on this. Not on Arrakis. They're out of their element and it showed when they were fighting Chani's troops.

0:52 paul don't look at nuke explosions They are bad for your eyes...

Studios need to stop spoiling stuff in trailers. The Sandworms coming out of the sandclouds would have been a nice surprise in the theater.
