Chicken Feeder Design for Bulk Feed

Published 2012-12-05
Here is another chicken feeder design I just came up with. Took me about 5 minutes to make it and that included washing out the cooking oil container! I used a 90mm hole saw then enlarged the hole slightly with sandpaper to accept the 90 degree/90mm elbow.

  • hi there ,these are great Ideas for a small flock or mostly egg layers. I have raised broilers at around 100-150 birds at a time and they feed like mad. They walk all over each other . Ive fed them with some large troffs that I pour 100# of feed at a time . I need something that will feed large number of birds, keep them from sitting on it., keep their food dry and keep food in front them with a large hopper. Feed cost a lot and I want to make sure as much as possible gets into the birds

nice. these containers are in the recycle bin all the time. i have just 15 chickens so this one with 2 spouts should be great.

I really like this! My chooks have a habit of sitting on top of their feeder and pooping into the feed below :/

Thanks for the tips Hamish. I made one the same and in the top I fitted a 90mm pvc fitting with a screw lid. Thanks for the tip.

Excellent innovation. I was surprised to see the quick adjustment among the chickens. Although I think on reflection I should have expected it. I do agree that it would be better to place more outlets for them to feed from.

Thanks - I beleive a little work up front setting up systems saves countless hours of work in the long term.

I think a lip or guard across the bottom of the opening just to reduce how much gets flicked around.

Thanks! Sometimes these things just come to me - this is one of the easiest to make and best chicken feeders I have made.
