A horrific swimming pool accident left a teenager without her intestines and unable to eat food for the last 10 years. When she was five-years-old, Salma Bashir was playing in a baby swimming pool in Alexandria, Egypt. She sat on the pool’s suction valve and the force was so strong that it ripped her small intestines from her body. Given just weeks to live Salma’s parents travelled with their young family to Pennsylvania, USA for life-saving surgery. Salma was then on a waiting list for a transplant and after a year and a half of waiting, she had the surgery that her family believed would be the start of the rest of Salma’s life. Instead the small intestines transplant rejected and after six months it had to be removed along with Salma’s large intestines and gallbladder; her stomach also had to remain open. Salma now receives all her nutrients via a TPN tube. Hopes for a future transplant are slim – the estimated cost of the five-organ transplant are $3 million but that’s not stopping Salma for giving it everything she’s got: the chatty teen has raised $15,000 already on her Gofundme page, while her makeup channel is a chance for Salma to escape her daily pain and discomfort.

New update (Jan 11, 2024): It is quite sad to inform you all that she just passed away yesterday. Now that she will no longer be in pain. I hope that she rests in peace ❤

If anyone is interested in how she's doing now, this is from the update she made in December 2022: "I've been living with my abdomen open since 2009. It has healed some, but will never fully heal. Since I dont have any intestines I can not eat food. There is no way for me to digest or ansorb food. Sometimes I chew food for taste but I have to spit it out, I can't swallow it. I can drink anything I'd like, but I dont get any of the nutrients because it come right out through a tube attached to my abdomen. Since I can't absorb any nutrients by traditional eating and drinking I am on Total Parenteral Nutrition or TPN IV fluids for 20 hours a day, daily. Although TPN has kept me alive all these years it causes severe liver damage and consequently I am currently in liver failure. I recieve my TPN through a central line port that goes to my heart. So, as of 2022 I am currently needing a 5 organ multiveseral transplant( small intestines, large intestines, liver, pancreas, and stomach). The medical issues alone have been a massive struggle but financial obstacles have made the road to recovery that much harder. Since I am not an American citizen and I didn't have a social security number, I didn't qualify for health insurance for over 14 years of my life. As you can imagine, things were not very easy. After years and hundreds of lawyers, thank God I was able to get a social security number. Because of this I can now obtain health insurance and thank God the second transplant is possible. I have been reevaluated for the 5 organ multiveseral transplant and placed on the transplant waiting list at the children's hospital for 2 years. In the early part of 2022 I decided to make the transition from the children's hospital to the adult hospital in Pittsburgh. It has been a difficult decision as a fair amount of comfort and security come from that which we know. Children's hospital would have allowed me to continue my care with them well into my adult years, but sadly my relationship with the children's hospital team was strained, difficult, and traumatic. I felt it was better for my overall health and well-being to make the transition to the adult transplant team. Because of that transfer of medical care children's hospital removed me from the transplant list. They simply thought it would be best since I was actively seeking care at the adult hospital and was no longer comfortable at Children's. However, their hasty action to remove me from the list has left me absent from any transplant list at this time. The adult team will need to evaluate me again and reinstate me on the list. This evaluation is done on an outpatient basis. Unfortunately my liver and overall health has been declining rapidly during the past year and as of date I have not been able to remain outside of the hospital long enough to have the evaluation. Therefore, I am currently not on the transplant waiting list. Thankfully we did start the evaluation process recently and I started getting tests done. So I'm hoping to be officially listed soon. The transplant itself will be nothing short of a true miracle. Because I have had so many blood transfusions over the years my body has a lot of antibodies. This makes finding a match very difficult. Also, I will need all 5 organs from the same person at the same time. This mean my donor will be deceased. I am woefully aware that this means my miracle will be someone else's tragedy. I struggle with that reality. It truly is very difficult. All I can say is if I am afforded such a beautiful gift of life I will do my best to live in gratitude."

She had that tragic accident in the swimming pool yet she still swims, WHAT A BRAVE GIRL
  • @stalewater8990
and this is why people should donate their organs when they die
  • @Rebecca_Bailey
Coming back here after seeing the update that she passed away is really heartbreaking, to survive 16 years after such a tragic accident is a remarkable achievement, I’m so glad that Salma is no longer in pain and can now be free to do her make up tutorials in heaven
  • @katizz988
This family should've been awarded 100 million pounds. The suction in the swimming pool shouldve never been that strong!!!
  • @katherinereid90
If everyone who watched this video donated a dollar she could have her transplant surgery.
  • What kind of pool has a suction that FREAKING PULLS OUT YER INTESTINES
  • I HAVE NO WORDS. I CANNOT IMAGINE SUCH A HORRIFIC ACCIDENT. WHAT A WARRIOR SHE IS. MY LIVE AND PRAYERS.
  • @Teachidoll
And this is why I'm a body donor. When I die I hope my parts are used to help others like her
  • @cheyannec7769
She passed away on Tuesday after a long battle. RIP Salma❤️
  • @lacihasty5330
What makes me angry us the fact that so many of our celebrities, NFL players, talk show hosts etc could easily afford her surgeries without even being financially ruffled. But for her it's impossible.
  • @indigoxalis
If I was ever a billionaire, I would spend my fortune on helping people like this.

Update: She’s in a very bad condition right now and she needs to raise $4000000 in order to get her 5 organ transplants. She isn’t even on the waiting list yet cuz of her financial position. She needs help. She’s in desperate need of help in order to stay alive. Please please please, if you want to help, please help by donating money through her gofundme link. Or if u can’t help by doing that at least keep sharing her story until someone who can donate will. She’s grasping at life and in need of immense help guys.💔💔 Update 2: Thank u to everyone who shared and donated, although Salma isn’t on the waiting list yet, she finally has insurance!! (P.S the insurance is still not enough to cover all her medical expenses so she’s still in dire need of the donations coming in so keep sharing and donate if u can!!)

I wish I could donate that money for her surgeries. My heart breaks for her. She is so brave and strong.
