Make GOOD GD Platformer Levels!

Published 2024-01-26
This is Geometry Dash 2.2’s most USEFUL feature!

Platformer Mode gives you limitless power to make interesting gameplay and unique layouts in Geometry Dash. It’s far more useful than you think, even if you’re aware of how crazy it already is! This video uncovers three important concepts you should consider as you create platformer gameplay, along with why you should know them.

platformer mode: cube decides it's done moving straight and decides to try every other direction
  • for triggers to work and look normally it must be touch trigger or spawn trigger, which is how you make cool stuff, although i reccomend spawn in order, but they can be none if u want, it will just happen at a certain time eventually. also make it kulti trigger to happen more than one time.

I find it funny that this trash level I made in a day just to join some dumb lobotomy competition now is appearing literally everywhere, not even the tutorials are safe anymore

Another tip I would recommend is to keep the difficulty consistent or slowly make it more difficult. Don't make it like a tutorial into a final boss for an extreme demon, it just looks better if you gradually make it more difficult in order for the player to understand the gameplay. :)

Note that the best games are ones that give you the most creative freedom. This can be implied to geometry dash levels as well. Having multiple ways to make your way to the top can be really helpful for making your level better.

something that’s improved my levels a lot recently is top 1k stargrinders as playtesters. They really know what a given difficulty should look like and give good advice as to what amount of stars to request and other gameplay changes to make

Love your video Can you make a tutorial about the parallax effect?

In terms of gamemodes, I honestly think UFO should have been excluded from Platformer Mode as well because going up a tall tower is so tedious that by the time the player reaches the top, they're no longer having fun. But that's just my take on it though. Feel free to destroy me in the replies.
