Due to Darius's passing on 11th August 2022, I've published this as a matter of public record, for others to listen to, to appreciate the beginnings of this artist well before he even arrived on Pop Stars and Pop Idol in the early 2000s.

Darius was in the year below me at school. We became friends during this time period as I was also doing music and computing, and was tinkering amongst the world of electronic music production on my PC at the time. He hastily required something for his higher music composition to be conjured into existence and so reached out to me in the early months of 1997 for help. We ended up taking an already existing demo MIDI track supplied with Gravis Ultrasound sound cards, rearranging it with extra instrumentation and overlaying some of his sampled vocals to create "I'm Just Chilling".

This track is most probably the very first track ever recorded and produced with Darius's vocals on it. He was 16 years old at the time of recording.

In my opinion, in retrospect, there are some questionable note clashes and timing issues with the additional sections of MIDI sequencing and instrumentation. Darius was on a strict deadline to get this submitted and so time was limited to fully polish the track, however, he was happy with it at the end and this is what was ultimately submitted to the exam board as part of his higher music course.

A dear school friend who will be deeply missed. RIP big man.
