Elizabeth Bowes Lyon, also known as the Queen Mother, was one of the royal family's most famous members and helped stabilise the monarchy's popularity. She helped teach her eldest daughter, the late Queen Elizabeth II, the ways of the crown, and had seen off the Luftwaffe and Adolf Hitler. She represented not only a country and an empire but a century of human history.

So haunting to see Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth and Queen Elizabeth all veiled in black.

It's wonderful to be able to hear Her Late Majestys voice.

Not much about the Queen Mother. Footage of a hound chasing a rabbit though. By the time I was born, the Queen Mother’s daughter had been on the throne for nearly 15 years, so I did not personally experience the Queen Mother’s glory days. She was the queen her nation needed in wartime, galvanizing her shy husband to hold firm to his duty. I have learned since that she was a very complex character. She herself said “I’m not as nice as people think I am.“ She was called the woman that Adolf Hitler feared the most. I am sure her story out of the public eye was an interesting one, but that is not this documentary.
  • ……she was a very nasty narcissist……how she treated her husband was abominable. She didn’t let her daughters’ be educated until they turned 12, so they couldn’t ‘outshine’ her…… She had staff she didn’t like, sacked. She was the ‘prime remover’ of KEVIII from the throne because she wanted to be Queen. She demanded she be known as the ‘Queen Mother’ after her husband died, when her correct title should’ve been ‘Dowager Queen’. She was insanely jealous of her daughter becoming QEII. When QEtQM died, she left a £7million grog bill for QEII to pay her liquor supplier, as ‘revenge’ to Elizabeth for becoming the Queen. Horrible woman, beneath the facade she had the world thinking she was ‘nice’. For a full history of this woman, may I suggest reading book, ‘The Queen Mother’, by Lady Colin Campbell. It’s a REAL eye-opener to her nastiness………

There is something so touching about hearing the Queen's voice as a child, reaching out to those suffering. Got me tearful. And something so powerful about Hitler hating the Queen Mother and Elizabeth, means they were powerful women.

I always thought that she ACTED AS THOUGH SHE WAS BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE. Like she was superior to everyone else. I WAS ALWAYS OF THE OPINION THAT ELIZABETH THOUGHT SHE SHOULD BE MARRIED TO SOMEONE LIKE BILL GATES. SOMEONE IMMENSELY WEATHLY, THE RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD.

  • I am slowly getting sick of your documentaries. Watching for 21 minutes (the half) and all is about the WWII. What about her childhood? But actually the thing that mostly changed Queen Mother´s life was the abdication of Edward VIII. And the music is (again) too loud. I am not watching more of this unprofessional so called "documentary"....sorry
