Here’s a fun heavy fretless bass jam with the mighty Jack Irons! He’s the founding drummer of RHCP and former member of Pearl Jam and Eleven. We’ve been recording some music and thought it’d be fun to shoot videos jamming to each other’s grooves, here’s an experimental rock tune we came up with!

I’m playing my fretless Cortex bass and used 5 pedals in this take: a Seamoon FX Grind Machine overdrive and Octatron octaver, a Walrus Audio D1 Delay, a Darkglass Hyper Luminal compressor and a Rodenberg 707b clean booster. I’m using Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings, Monster Bass cables, and recorded with my Eich T-1000 amp’s DI into a Focusrite Scarlett into my laptop. I’m stepping the pedals real-time and didn’t use any plugins or post processing. I mixed my take and Jack’s drum mixdown in Cubase and mastered it with Ozone.

Jack plays his custom Masters of Maple drums, Evans drum heads, Zildjian cymbals and Vic Firth sticks. He recorded his drum take in Luna using Apollo interfaces. Besides Jack’s major bands he’s been releasing great solo records over the years, the amazing drum sound is recorded, mixed, and engineered by Jack himself. Links to his solo work are down in this description.

We recently recorded “White Orchid” together in the studio and you can hear Jack and me as well on “Bananas” from the recent 7” vinyl “Trill Seekers/Bananas” with The Big Ol’ Nasty Getdown. You can get the purple splatter vinyl here: bit.ly/TrillSeekersBananas and listen to Bananas here:    • Bananas

I've always been a fan of how musical your jams are, and Jack's drumming just reinforces that and fits like a glove! Excellent work!

Absolutely killing it. No need for a guitar player at all. I was thinking about how I would play back up guitars to this track and even playing in a minimal way to accentuate you taking the lead, it was like: "How would I contribute anything that wouldn't get in the way, or do your playing justice?"

..i love Remc's grooves...i like how he snaps the strings instead of really slapping...i like it so much i do it all the time...

Mean and downright nasty and 100% FUNKY..I thoroughly enjoyed that!! That bass sounds like a melodic 454 with dual headers!!
