Welcome back to another episode of 'Restorations with Vick'! This week Vick Almighty how to repair damaged leather from a deep scratch on these Travis Scott Air Jordan 1.

Just like a cleaning, Vick started off this restoration by removing the laces and inserting a shoe tree. With the shoe tree snug inside, Vick will be able to put additional pressure on the toe box during the restoration - this step is extremely important for the leather filling and sanding process to be successful. Before the sanding could begin, Vick made sure to trim down the pieces of raised leather and suede near the scratch. With the damaged leather surrounding the scratch removed, it was time to start sanding! In a circular motion, Vick began sanding down the scratch on the tumbled leather using 400 grit sandpaper. Once the leather started to smoothen out, he moved on to 800 grit, and finally 1500 grit.

His plan was to repeat this same process on the scratched suede, but the the 400 grit sandpaper wasn't working as well as he'd like, so he broke out the dremel tool and lightly sanded the suede. The suede may never again be perfect, but the results were night and day! From there, it was time to head back to the tumbled leather toe box and work on filling the scratch. Using Leather World Technologies white leather filler, Vick began the slow process of filling the scratch. As Vick notes, it's important to use a minimal amount in each coat. Caking the leather filler in the scratch will NOT give you a desired outcome, or speed up the process. After each coat, Vick would sand down down the filler using 800 grit sandpaper. The shoe was starting to look great, but there was a noticeable texture difference in the tumbled leather that had received sanding. To offset this, Vick dabbed leather filler on the smooth areas using a scrap piece of tumbled leather, followed by a light sanding using 1500 grit. Note: it's extremely important to let the filler dry before sanding, or the filler will not stick!

With six to seven patient coats applied, it was time for paint! Mixing white, cream, and mist, the Almighty One applied an even coat across the toe box using his angler brush. Prior to the last coat of paint, Vick applied a layer of Krylon matte finish, an extremely important process that protects and seals the paint.

How will the filler work after certain wears? It’s a amazing fix for sure. Just wonder if it can stand later creases from wearing
