Great tourist attractions in Sion: Tourbillon Castle and the ancient basilica – Switzerland

Published 2023-06-02
The 13th-century Tourbillon Castle (or Château de Tourbillon) and 12th-century Valère basilica (also called Valère castle) are sights you must see when you are in Switzerland. They are located next to each other, on their own hill. The climb from the ‘road’ is 90 metres to the castle. The castle also contains a chapel with murals, but it was closed when I was there. And the 12th-century murals in the church’s nave are protected by glass to prevent further deterioration. So take photos through the glass or above your head. However, it was one of my favourite days in Switzerland! Oh, and the stop before Sion train station, is St-Léonard station. Get off if you want to see something special (watch my Switzerland nature video)!

Thanks for watching!

  • Thank you so much for sharing your trip to Sion. My family emigrated from that area in the early 1900s and I have not yet been able to travel and see it for myself.
