IMPORTANT - READ ME BEFORE WATCHING!

Long story made short, the purpose of the video was to help people get more troll fragments to spend on getting the sword. At the time, this was useful, because once you leveled archeology high enough you would start having to go to vashj'ir to get fragments, resulting in massive time consumption. Nowadays this video serves mainly as historical novelty and is now vastly out of date, because blizzard A) Removed the vashj'ir nodes and B) added in a 200 fragment cap - specifically to block out my demonstrated method in this video. Ergo, the video is now useful only for people who want to know what you used to be able to do, not what you can do now.

This is my guide video for how to boost your odds at getting Zin'rokh the world destroyer / the staff of sorcerer-thane thaurissan, the 2h sword and one of the 2h staffs from archeology.

Archeology is essentially a profession centered around gambling. There is no guarantee that you will get any item you are after as everything is based off of drop chance, but there is a way to stack odds more into your favor, or eliminate / lessen the "house edge" of odds stacked against you. This video shows you how to boost your own odds.

YES, using this tactic will slow down the rate at which you gain skillups - atleast initially, but in return it will make leveling 450-525 extremely quick and increase the chances at which you will be able to get the item you want - be it the sword from troll or staff from dwarf (this same principle can be applied to night elf archeology, or any other rare you could possibly want as well.

The goal here is not to get to 525 as quickly as possible, it is to make your skillups count for more - you cannot get the epic weapons untill 450 and above (so says the general consensus on wowhead at present) so you will want your "important" skillups (ie, the ones tied into the race that drops the item you desire) to only be used after you can unlock the item you are after.

I bet when you made this video, you couldnt ever imagine people revisiting this video thirteen years later as we are re running the cata hamster wheel
  • best and most helpful guide for this occured 13years ago. Good content man. Thank you time traveling friend

@zjbloom No, it's not off. You'll most likely want to get good items for the characters you level first. a 2h sword that you can give to your character that you are leveling RIGHT NOW holds much more value and priority than a 2h staff that you MIGHT give to your caster character in 4-6 months IF you get around to leveling him.

@JHgamer101 the way it works is the farmable archeology nodes will varry and will have a set number depending on the continent you are on and your archeology skill level. If you stay in the eastern kingdoms, you will get almost entirely dwarf, fossil, and troll digsites.

Making a limit to 200 fragments is great motivation

@Mattherat203 No. odds don't ever really go "up", you just have to have passed a certain point to be able to get rares at all. Think of it like having to have a certain level to be able to loot a "This item begins a quest" type thing. In the case of the two example weapons, its 450. If you solve before 450, there is a zero chance to get them.

@deadlyzin101 Nowadays, there's not much point in holding it at 450, since the vash archeology digsites were removed. However, after blizzard removed the vash archeology sites, they also placed a cap on the amount of fragments you can have at a given time - that cap being 200, so the "more rolls of the dice while leveling the profession" tactic is, while still do-able, less efficient.

Well after 2 years and having every item except the swords and the staff (The staff I wanted more fore the way it looks) I gave up on trying and got the Crystalfire Staff. Looks the same but has a different glow. Good luck to all of you trying to get either one.

@MrLivinAngel Keystones are rare discoveries. you dig them up from archeology nodes, and they are a rare drop from all archeology nodes (respective to the type of the node). Or, buy them off the AH. = )
  • @belthazor3457
@Smarmory there is no character-level or class requirement for any of the items from archeology, barring that some nodes (like ones in uldum for tol'vir) may be a tad hard to get, since a level 75 dk would be fighting level 83 mobs. = P

Really helpfull video. Thanks a lot. To bad i watched it after I used up all my dwarf fragments to skil.
  • @ASmith-pb2we
The best way to increase your odds is to do Archae as a dwarf for the bonus.

@maxudd barring containers, which you will want to loot first, they are mostly vendor trash.
