Is Forza Motorsport Good Now? – Nick's Notebook

Published 2024-04-29
Forza Motorsport has been out for 6 months and seen a host of updates since then, and so I'm taking a look at how it was and how it is now in this new longer format where I get to just sit and talk a bit about a topic.

You mention GT career mode at 20:00, I can't agree, the career mode in GT7 is the worst thing about that game, not a single race is an actual "race", you start at the rear of the pack and have to pass 15 odd cars which are all lapping 4+ seconds slower than you, it's mundane. Conversely, in Forza, while it's not perfect, with the difficulty at 6/8 I find myself more often than not having good races, last night for example I finished a race in 4th place starting from 12th, with the leaders best laps marginally faster than mine, it's a much more realistic race experience.

Things I'd like to see Feature tours permanent Open tour car rewards in the shop once it ends All open Class available in multilayer More monthly Cars Better graphics on xbox and remodeled Cars

I enjoy it, the driving is realistic enough to enjoy it on the wheel, but the amount of newbs is crazy, the matchmaking doesnt work, amd the penalty system punishes the victim 90% of the time

cool video :) I am happy to hear someone also want to have a race serie with stock tuning on the cars, where you actually can choose car A and B Like ford vs ferrari, bmw vs mercedes, porsche 911 vs nissan gtr etc. Thanks again for your video and great thoughts and comments :)

I need more to do. Career is funish. Im getting tired of grinding 3 hours to level 50. To get brand affinty. Cut the time in half. 1.5 hours. Its a bit absurd.

Its telling when even my predictions of the youtube tag farmers didnt come back around this time saying "Forza is ACTUALLY GREAT NOW" never came around. Genuinely so few people actually play the game. By rebooting themselves "From the ground up" they've further lost any definable identity to the entire car community and are now just know for their game being "problematic". And not in the political way. But in the 'its got so many little problems no one is even bothering to play it' way. I counted it dead in December. And even though they have made 2 distinctive updates that has shown even a cynic like me that theres still a glint of inspired passion there. I still dont think there is a path forward for the series. Not without significant time, and in their case, money. The studios story is the same as every other in the industry. Too much bloat, No passion. Old guard are leaving or being pushed out by certain specific interests. and middle management middle managing. Its a spaghetti mess that leaves everyone holding the bag but the investors and execs.

I've been playing alot of FM2 lately and I played so much FM4 back in the day, currently on the fence about this game. From everything i've heard, the singleplayer is still really lacking in the new game. It's really sad because FM4 had hundreds of events. It also had the World Tour mode where the game would take you across these events automatically by rotating between tracks (because the player is 'travelling across the world) and showing you three different events with different rewards each time, based on what car you've picked. It was such a natural, varied and easy approach to progression without taking away freedom.

I too loved the progression in the Gran Turismo games, but haven't owned a console since the ps2 - I play on PC these days. Looking for any recommendations of racing games with a similar system as GT?

I normally play at medium settings without Ray Tracing due to performance issues (weak CPU older GPU). Last week I turned RT on and to my surprise I lost nothing in FPS. A couple of hours ago, I turned RT back off and set the game to ultra, and I finally started seeing hits to the FPS. So I settled on high performance settings but ultra car and high track, and the game looks good? This cant be. I see no DLSS artifacts, the FPS barely drops below my soft-capped 75FPS. Thats on Daytona, Suzuka, Hockenheim and Hakone. It looks like they made good on fixing performance on weaker CPUs.

I've actually started to enjoy the gradual upgrade system in career, it's fun to play around with tuning and find which upgrades gain the best performance. The AI is suitably aggressive at higher difficulty and I don't always finish first, it's actually tight racing
  • The biggest problem is the game doesn't friggin run man, it hasn't had stable performance on PC since day one
  • @ThePhilberto
Microsoft should have closed down Turn 10 and given Forza Motorsport to another development team. Every Motorsport since 4 has been a disappointment. Built from the ground up apart from the cars, AI, livery editor etc. etc.
  • @slavche
Bro, we all have our own opinions, and I understand that, and respect your valid opinion here. However you said, it doesn't mater if the cars are good, tracks are good, PHYSICS, are good, GFX are crazy good now too. IT all doesn't matter because.. people crash online in race games.... People crash online in race games... in GT7 too... nobody ever crashed in GT7? I remember crashing online stuff in gt6 sport having penalties BUT NOT GIVING A EFF anyway.. BOTH games need to do better with crashing. I LOVE forza' system of EVERY CORNER is being counted, so at least you have that in your mindset every corner so as to inspire people to not crash for their own times sake. however, I get your point, BUT, if the REST of the damn game is LEVELS above anything I DONT GIVE A EFF. I'll just play with. "drivatars" or some sh*&.. I'll play the CAREER builders cup cuz it's pretty long and COOL, the career is SICK, and the ONLINE races are SICK man. The game IS SICK.. yes there are cashes in online mode... like other games. Peace :D (my opinions)
  • @dcampbell97
I like the simplistic nature of Forza....it is getting a lot better with every update. I like that it is all racing and really no drifting or hitting bowling pins etc. Definitely would like to see some more content in single player like spec series stuff like that and continue to improve AI and as you mentioned the system of if you are not good in practice you shouldn't be in the race either. Also add a qualifying option in career mode like multiplayer. So yes it can be better but I really am enjoying the game as it is right now.
  • @thepaywall7900
I find when I notice a lot of rubberbanding on career I wait til everyone bunched up and take the lead car out 😂
  • @slavche
Yes. (is Forza MS good now? = yes).
  • @Flying-Fox19
Most sequels for any system is "dying" for PS5 and Xbox. Helldivers 2 and Palworld, both original games got to shine. Forza Horizon 5 desperately needs pedestrians/animals so urban areas feel alive like any open world game like GTA franchise. After 4 games still nothing. Hell NFS needs it also. AI cant randomly generate?
  • @sestenwhen
I keep going back to it but bottom line is the cars, even upgraded and tuned are just underivable. They changed the tuning. It's too complex. It took me over a year to learn to be a good tuner in Forza Horizon. Now the same settings I used in Horizon do not work in Motorsport. Every car just spins out of control too easy, just touching the brakes! If they wanted to make it immersive they failed out of the gate buy starting with stock cars. No one takes a stock car to a pro track. IT SUCKS!
  • @Iron_Ghost_
I immediately noticed that you're a local boet
  • Dude complaining about proximity marker when the reviewed mirrors are showing someone approaching the car lol.
