Same issue with my 74 Nova. Had to shim the T56 Mag 1.75” total to get 3 degrees down on the trans tailshaft. All Holley Blackheart.

Didn’t check this, driveline blew out at 100mph, wrecked the new trans, driveline and caused lots of damage to the floor pan.. 70 Chevelle, 6.0 4L80e , not lowered in the rear, trans is over 2 inches up from where I had it still at 4 degrees, looks like I’m going the same route you did
