He wrote it when he was 16 and didn’t like it. It remained unfinished and unpublished until 1964 when it became a top 10 international hit.
But the Beatles didn’t record it.

  • I've always loved this song, and finding out McCartney wrote it made the story almost legendary. The fact it was a hit goes to show that not all music critics are right.

Nice work on this one. Just goes to show that even McCartney’s self deemed B list material was more top shelf than many other artist’s A list material. It’s amazing how easy it became for him to make it flow like water out of a tap…
  • I’m 77 years old and grew up in the Philippines. I’ve always loved Peter and Gordon and my favorite song A world without love!

Wow! So glad I found this! I am also 77 (someone else mentioned their age) and grew up with the Beatles and the “British Invasion”. I swear my friend had the first Beatle record in America. His aunt in the UK sent him a 45 with four songs on it saying, “These are the hottest musicians in Europe.” Back in the 60’s we had no idea who collaborated with who so your insight makes those memories even more precious! Thank you, Gianni❤

I'm sitting there with my youngest daughter (25 years old) and we're watching that "Get Back" documentary... the episode where Paul McCartney was writing the song "The Long And Winding Road" in the studio with the cameras rolling. He starts off with the first verse written, and he's starting to flesh out the second verse singing "The wild and windy night...something something, something something..." By the end of that episode he's got the song fully done and we're both floored. I look over and she's actually crying. She says "I can't believe I'm sitting here literally watching him create this beautiful masterpiece." The man is a genius.

One of my favorites! For a young me, often bullied by my peers, it spoke my heart and still makes me weep, recalling the pain of my youth 💔❤️

    I've always loved "A World Without Love" & Peter & Gordon: I was 10 & 1/2 when it came out Feb. 24th, 1964❣

Fascinating story which again demonstrates the pure musical genius of Paul! Thanks GT for keeping the music alive and well! 👍👍📀📀

A catchy tune. I wish I could have written songs like that at 16.

It goes to show how immensely talented Paul is. Even a little song, quickly written is enough to propel other people’s careers to number 1 when they couldn’t do it themselves! Mind blowing.

Old guy here, loved the music of that time period. My mom worked in a Woolworth and I recall the Beatles bobble heads on display. She's 101 and I reminded her of the bobble heads and wished we'd bought the whole display and assured our early retirements.

Guitar Trooper has some of the very best content about my generation’s music on YouTube and possibly in the entire world. I’m astounded when any of my musician friends have never heard of him. GT is the ultimate “Deep Dive” into American music history.
