Today, I take a look into Magic the Gathering's deep lore. Finding all of the planeswalkers that haven't appeared on official Magic the Gathering cards. These planeswalkers are featured in Magic's many different Books, Comics, Articles, and Video Games.

  • A few more: -There are also a few "unsparked" planeswalkers like Glacian, Glissa, and Slobad who never had their sparks awaken (Glacian's was absorbed into the Mightstone and Weakstone and was the source of both Urza's and Karn's pre-Mending planeswalking abilities, Glissa unknowingly sacrificed her Spark to untether the 1st-generation Mirrans abducted by Memnarch from Mirrodin, and Slobad gave his up to bring Glissa back to life afterwards). -Garth One-Eye/Oortael and Granny Sengir are just 2 of many characters who became planeswalkers but have never received cards depicting them with those powers (though there is debate about whether or not Garth actually had the Spark, since the HarperPrism era is kind of the Wild West of storytelling). -Dyfed also appeared in The Thran as the planeswalker who introduced Yawgmoth to the plane of Phyrexia, though he killed her via brain-scrambling because he wanted to vivisect her so he could harvest whatever organ let her planeswalk so he could graft it into himself. -Fiers was revealed in Scourge to be a planeswalker, instead of the god that the Pardic tribes of Otaria worshipped. And a dwarf planeswalker would be cool, since we're lousy with human ones at the moment.

Unique planes: 1, maybe 2 planeswalkers across the entire plane Dominaria: every 3rd person has an active spark
  • “Then we have Khazi who is introduced and then immediately killed in the same book to make it seem like War of the Spark had any stakes to it.” Intentional or not, I appreciate the almost palpable amount of disappointment and disgust in your tone when delivering this line.

Really great and comprehensive video, guy! Very entertaining to watch. I want to shout out the Planeswalker Dyfed that we haven’t got a card for yet. She’s a character in “The Thran” novel, and she’s the Planeswalker who showed Yawgmoth Pryulea and then Phyrexia. She dies in the story I believe.

What be really cool if they do a historical set of old magic characters.

Such a great video. It really goes to show how big Magic is, and how so many stories have spawned out of it. So much so that there isn't enough cards to contain them all

Random Fact: Planeswalker Guff was based on MTG novel writer Scott McGough. In MTG lore, Guff has a copy of every book ever written and knows how the first Phyrexian invasion will end. He redacts and re-writes history to help his allies in the war.

This is a really dope video. I love how infinitely expansive the lore of Magic is! I hope we start seeing some more stories like these older ones circulating around again soon.

honestly im fine with how it was handled before. Planeswalkers are cool and all, but it seems like they now print too many of them every single set, which just make them more boring than anything. There is still intrigue with the older planeswalkers, but if Ajani or Chandra gets another printing, its already expected and not really cared about. I just wish that the planswalkers used to be something that happened more rarely and actually felt powerful - like planeswalkers.

Ramaz should have really been in Kaldheim. He looks like a viking type of planeswalker or a shamanic one.
  • @Zouzk
There's also no card (except planechase) that depicts the first planeswalker Nicol Bolas killed, which was a Demon Leviathan if I remember correctly, whose corpse became the Talon Gates planechase card
  • Thanks for mentioning Parcher, it's really rare to see anyone that remembers him.
  • @EvanFarshadow
Fun fact about Liana of Minorad: she is the canon owner of the 5 og Mox, as well as a Black Lotus. She is also a changeling and is a really important character herself
  • "The unluckiest" should be a planswalker that when cast/enters the battle enters under an opponents control. It has an static ability that forces the controler to activate one of the loyal abilities each turn and it only has abilities that is bad for the controler (probebly + abilities so it sticks around) and maybe an ultimate that realy punishes the controler but if its loyalty becomes 0 beacuse of the ultimate its controler gives it to another person

An interesting recent one is Tacenda, from Children of the Nameless. Since it's not know for certain if she's actually a planeswalker or if she's just piggybacking on a traveling worldsoul.
  • @ThreatLevel9
thank god someone else remembers ramaz. he leaves at the end of Duels 2014 and we never hear of him again. he woulda been perfect to take over the Gruul in War of The Spark.
  • @taylormatic
Never realized the guy on those curses was a planeswalker
  • @cukierkot7256
Very interesting video, i will leave a sub and like cause why not:)
  • @wetspot8776
it'd be cool if unluckiest etbs under opponents control but the loyalty abilities can only be activated by its controllers opponent (you) and then have some abilities that would mess up your opponent, probably shouldn't have any loyalty gaining abilities because it would be so hard to interact with since they couldn't attack themselves
