Whoa! My heart would sink quicker than a torpedoed rubber raft. Thank you for sharing this horror story so that we can not make the same mistake.
-
It's probably obvious now, but streamers streaming your game or making videos about it are the most valuable advertising you can get. So you'll always be at odds with a game developer on this. They want the game streamed virally by players, with the music. Glad it all worked out for you.

I totally agree on relational equity over monetization every time. I highly recommend Soundrop over Distrokid. Since you own the rights to the soundtrack, I believe it’s in your best interest to stream your music (exposure + monetization). You don’t have to check the YouTube content ID box :)
-
Thanks for lighting this up! Very wise piece of advice
-
Damn dude, that’s crazy! Glad things resolved in the end.

I totally dig this style of video. I'd love to see more content like this of just you talking about your experiences in the industry. I've been wanting to get myself out there, but the lack of confidence and direction is kind of daunting without a mentor-like person to share wisdom; I've basically resigned myself to just uploading arrangements on YT as a sort of online resume thing. These kinda videos are really uplifting and humanize the whole experience for newbies like me as well as others.

It's crazy....there's so many problems that dang YouTube checkbox can cause!
-
Hey Matt! Really enjoying your interview with Garrett Coker, Zelda analysis vids, chord progressions… I totally thought you went to music school. Your spot on, on the right track and putting out great content. The microphone you use during interviews, the editing, all of it. Just wanted to say I notice all the hard work and really appreciate it!
-
Thank you for sharing! I'd be a nervous wreck if I were in that situation. I haven't personally heard anything shady from Distrokid, but I have been exploring other options for releasing future work.
-
Had the same problem with that. Also use Distrokid for that. I try to go every let's play I find of the games I've worked for, and check if everything's ok. And just like you said, it's better to have a great relationship with the people you work with and not a couple of cents out of streaming

Thiw is more panic inducing than finding out you've misplaced your phone, keys and wallet.
-
Crazy story! Thanks for sharing!
-
thank u very much for that! By any chance: will there be more composer code interviews? :)
-
Everytime I do Youtube Content ID I regret it lol.
-
Thanks for the video and the knowledge.

If you have any tips for this aspect of music (aka the stuff that isn't just writing for fun) please make a video on it, it'd be insanely helpful!
