I bought a nice second hand EV and have never looked back, it costs me literally nothing to run and I worked out I will recuperate my outlay within 18 months from what I was spending on fuel with my ice engined car, no brainer. Don't let the oil companies fool you with their untruthful propaganda.
  • I rather have a EV than a ICE with a turbo, start/stop, emissions system, the complex OBD codes, and waiting in a gas station line. And my dog needs the “dog mode “.

I live in Vernon British Columbia and solar panels work! I make enough solar to power my home completely with AC, Electric dryer, Electric range, 240 volt humidifier + a 60 amp 240 volt Tesla charger power needs with 32 solar panels. B.C. Hydro banks our excess solar power generation and we use this in the winter or on cloudy days. They buy the excess banked power if any annually. Our hydro bill is less then 10.00 a month to be connected to the grid to allow us to bank power or consume power. This is a no brainer in our opinion! 😎🇨🇦 P.S. We also got 5000 grant for solar and a 40,000 interest free loan for 10 years that paid for the solar, additional insolation in the roof & new 3 pane windows! The savings in our power bill pays the payments on our 10 year interest free loan with money to spare! Win Win Win in our opinion and we are much greener than before!

I expect my new Tesla MYLR to last twice as long as my last ICE vehicle. I also expect it to cost much lower to fuel and that it will require very few repairs. So, I expect lifetime costs of my EV to be about 30% of the cost of buying / fueling / servicing / insuring ICE vehicles. My experience after 1 year is showing me that I'm on the right track
  • @airparnes
Six yrs ago a Subaru dealership employee admitted that EVs would put them out of business eventually due to lost revenue from repairs and servicing. Change is never easy. In many cases people realize the EV advantages outweigh the noise from naysayers.

My neighbor started asking me a lot questions a while back about my EV. He finally bought a used 2021 Bolt in pristine shape with a new battery and 15k miles for $13,500 which we both considered a steal. He did the math and is amazed at the fuel savings he'll be getting. He's been delighted by his decision and loves the vehicle.

Of course it does! Don’t need to be a math whiz to realize that. Internal combustion engines easily wear and tear and you literally have to worry about maintaining/repairing/replacing those parts in the internal combustion engine (pistons, sparkplugs , the rubbers, “oil change” that’s “supposedly keeps the internal combustion engine parts clean”, etc.) and its proper maintenance is only as good as the technicians who work on it at the stealerships or mechanic shops and that’s not saying much because most of these technicians literally don’t do any work and just simply adjusts the computer as proof to show they did any work. With a Tesla, what you only need to do is properly care and manage the batteries (not degrading them fast, not stressing them out, not overcharging them, etc.), and they literally can last 30+ years.
  • Anyone who actually owns an Tesla and charges at home already knew this. The EV hate is all about ICE industry job losses, future EV mandates and muscle car guys sore from getting beat by teslas on the drag strip.
  • Then there are those of us Tesla owners who bought at a time when you got free Supercharging in some form. I got free SC for life of ownership of a ‘20 MS. With a SC station 0.3 miles away from my house it sure beats pumping gas. While the MS was not cheap I bought it using money I made in a tax free Roth IRA account, this was prior to the 15x stock splits of TSLA and it’s subsequent rocketing so for me it was essentially ‘free’. I’m retired so withdrawing from a Roth account was not an issue. I got lucky, ymmv. Best and most fun/enjoyable car I’ve ever driven in decades of driving. And I used to be a hot rodder in my youth, ‘32 Ford roadster with the works.
  • @jimhimesjr
The area I live in has quite a few ev’s around but lots of people are unaware of how they actually are to own. Am asked about mine all the time and I pretty much hear the same thing (where are you going to charge it and what’s the range), I then tell them I charge it at home for half of what gas cost me and I have over 250 miles real world range and in my job I typically drive 130 miles a day (sometimes 200). Why would I need fast chargers? Insurance cost wasn’t ridiculously higher like some say either. $25 a month more
  • I drove 22,000 miles over the last year on a new Hyundai Ioniq 6. Averaging over the year 3.75 kWh/mi gets me 5,867 kWh of electricity used. Charging (L2) at home my electricity rate is $0.135 per kWh. That works out to be $792 in annual fuel costs. Add in another 20% for charging efficiency losses means total cost $950. A gas car that gets 30 MPG at an average of $3.45 per gallon means $2,530 in fuel costs over the same 22,000 miles. Extra $200 in my State for registering an EV to offset the lost road tax, but $360 extra for the 4 oil changes the car would have needed gives me a savings of over $1,000 just in fuel and the oil/registration costs. The more you drive, the more the savings. This doesn't include any "free" charging I got with the 2-year Hyundai/EA deal with my new car. And I really traded in a big truck that got 15 MPG which put my annual savings over $5,000, but I want to consider a similar body styles. Just DoTheMath!
  • @brucec954
I don't know, it really bugged me that I had to refill the windshield wiper fluid bottle in my Tesla MY. I mean I had to even go to the store and buy another bottle as I was almost out.....Only thing I have done to my 2021 MY, well except for adding some air to the tires.
  • Easier to pass emissions tests with a electric vehicle
  • My CYBERBEAST was kinda pricey but it doesn’t cost much to drive. I know I’m going to save money in the long run.
  • @h-e-acc
And owning Tesla would be even less expensive to own because all the regular proper maintenance and cleaning can be DIY (tire alignment and rotation, filter change, brake fluid check, etc.). It would be even less expensive if Tesla adopts GoSun’s roof rack-mounted EV solar charger making it more lightweight and higher capacity that should be able to be used to charge Tesla Powerwalls to supply power to a single family house so you get that multi-functionality.
  • EVs Cost Less Long Term Than ICE in America – thumbnail Which country in particular as America comprises 35 countries 🤔
  • @keith8346
Thank you. You do a wonderful job of sharing what everyone should see as a ray of sunshine in a stormy world.
  • Long-time Tesla shareholder: nothing premium about the Tesla Model Y, but it has a lot of features and statistics that is a must to be considered a premium car; energy efficiency, 0-100 time , the “just works”-charging network, the App, the in-car SW, and OTA, rear seat heating. But the interior design and materials, ride quality, noise level, no interior roof handles, no cover for the panoramic roof (should be electric), , cargo net/bar separation absence- even not fitting for one when all other have this behind second row AND front row, the trunk cover is a joke, the material in the trunk is poor, the light output from the headlights is a shame,
  • We’ve owned our first Tesla model 3 for 2 years now and are at 115,000 km. Just on fuel alone we’ve saved $15,000! Not to mention, no oil changes, brakes, fuel injection system etc. Then there’s the fact that in the winter the car is always warm when we get in, cool in the summer, FSD v12 has completely changed the way we interact with the vehicle. Tires, cabin air filters, and 2 sets of wipers. That’s everything.
