“You thought koopa worked alone?!” “…no? He has an entire army?”
  • @bonedude1286
Fun Fact: at 1:28, you can faintly hear Mario say "Because you're my brother.", followed by 1:35, where Luigi says "You're no longer my brother." The feels, man. One of the best songs in the mod.

1:10 Really makes me imagine this part of the mod When the silhouette of Peach appears while the brothers fight, it's like it was forgotten on what the main purpose of the game was. Not a game of who gets the spotlight, but two brothers saving the princess from the evil Koopa. But it was never "Mario and Luigi" saving the day. It was always just Mario. Mario rescues the Princess Mario gets rewarded Mario is thanked Mario is always the main focus as Luigi is just there. Standing in the shadows filled with jealousy and anger. Wanting to both get revenge on his brother and prove he was worth fighting against. If he can't be the hero, he might as well be the villain.

i like how mario's chromatic is sampled from the shows but luigi's isn't, it shows a good contrast between the two
  • @bellespawnlol
i’m pretty sure mario’s voice is sampled from his actor in the smb3/smw shows? if so, great choice! it’s a weirdly fitting voice for him that doesn’t get enough love

Y'know, putting aside Luigi's resulting... uh... disfigurement, "I HATE YOU" kind of gives us a glimpse into what could've happened if Luigi didn't take being in his brother's shadow in stride like he does nowadays, as one can roughly deduce from his deepest thoughts in Mario & Luigi: Dream Team's "Dream's Deep" section. In simpler terms, maybe there was a period of time Luigi where actually did dislike being in his brother's shadow (though I'm not sure if Luigi himself has ever implied it, as it doesn't come off like something he'd do), but the events of the Luigi's mansion series made him realize that maybe it isn't as bad as he had once thought. As a result, as more and more of his big bro's adventures have him play a pivotal part in (especially in the case of Dream Team) and as he found himself coming to his brother's rescue on at least 1 other occasion (assuming LM3 would be past the acceptance point), the more comfortable he became with being where he is. Who cares about being in your brother's shadow when he still appreciates you for being there when he needs you? As long as he's by his brother's side, he's there's nothing that can stop him. This is what makes the tone of "Alone v2" so tragic, especially in comparison to v1. He got out of his brother's shadow... and he failed his brother the one time he needed him most. That bites, truly. However, what if he had let that desire to be something more stew within, resulting in it warping and distorting into true hatred? Sure, Super Mario World is a little early for that to reach its boiling point, but it's still no less a harrowing look into such a possibility and its eventual consequences.
  • I just wish the “Because you’re my brother” “You’re no longer my brother” Was more noticeable. I love it, but you have to listen very closely to hear it

honestly this song hits hard * mario starts first, likely trying to calm down luigi to no avail * the song soon escalates to sounding more intense, mario realizing the only way out is to fight his brother's rage with his own * the song becomes more somber halfway through, perhaps mario trying to remind luigi that they're brothers and that they don't have to fight, but luigi doesnt see mario's points whilst blinded by jealousy, causing mario to escalate his tone back to anger due to luigi's refusal to listen * the song starts to get less intense, perhaps symbolizing both brothers getting tired from their fight so yeah over all this song is just a rollercoaster of emotions
  • @infineoinfinite
"You thought the Koopa worked alone?" Yes, Luigi, I deeply apologize for neglecting you as Player 2. I should've gotten a Luigi cap beforehand... Anyway, I love this prequel track that truly shows Mario's potential on how he confronts Luigi (and yes, I already know about the original creepypasta, the game that shows how it's played, and the romhack based from the game. Shush.)
  • @PhoneyHat
Anyone realize Obi-Wan vs Anakin on the volcanic planet would be a perfect cover for this They fight over lava, they were brothers in arms, Anakin's working with the main villain, Padmé is heartbroken, Obi has no choice but to leave him to burn, Anakin's final words before becoming Vader are literally "I hate you" Need I say more
  • 1:37 Easily the best part in my opinion. The vocals, instrumental, intensity, EVERYTHING is perfect in this section. you absolutely killed it, kenny. this is by far my favorite FNF song of all time.
  • @SlightlyCreative
i love Mario's chromatic in this so much overall this song is a banger, definitely my favorite
  • @dr.yeetus6815
What I loved about the original creepypasta video when the part of "oh god no" came, was just its simplicity. They were small and red, all capitals. I just felt they just didn't express a scream, but a thought of the sorrow of a consequence as the pain got to him, a need to repent and ask anybody, anything, to give him more time to ask for forgivance. Not to get a second chance, but to let his brother know he was sorry.
  • @Cerealt
You did amazing with this one Kenny! Definitely one of my favorite songs from the mod
  • @gayminggod2223
fun fact: peach sighs at 1:24 very quietly In the official flp, you can single play the track and it indeed is peach sighing
  • @ethanwilde4716
Doing my civic duty to remind everyone that "I Hate You." Is in the jokepasta because the creator was making it as to poke fun of the haunted game tropes but it was so well written that people seems to forget about it.
  • @leonalee697
I like how this song expressed how mario wanted to avoid conflict by lowering the intensity the song in the beginning and raised intensity when mario realize that to avoid the situation he would have to fight his brother

I don't care what anyone else says about this song, it is my favorite of the whole soundtrack. Not just for being a bop of a song, but just how thematically faithful it is to the source material. - The instrumental is constructed from various SNES soundfonts to the point where it sounds like a boss theme in something like Yoshi's Island, Earthbound, or Mega Man X. It even fits as a boss theme in Ersanio's adaptation of I HATE YOU, better than the music in the actual hack. - Alongside the vocals themselves being fun to listen to, the icing on these vocals is Luigi's spoken lines. They're so over the top and dramatic, and yet they don't have the oomf of a serious delivery. It's quite fitting and, in the older version was pretty damn hilarious, befitting with the fact that I HATE YOU was originally written as a joke. The only criticism I really have is common with some of the other songs in this mod, something that doesn't detract from their overall quality, but might be a reason why people have criticized the soundtrack. The vocals overlapping over each other works on the level that the Bros. are senselessly bickering and aren't listening to a damn thing each other are saying, but it also makes it hard to appreciate the individual vocals with how much that overlaps becomes egregious.
