  • "When you pray for the rain, you got to deal with the mud too" - priceless
  • @egmont5044
Everybody gangsta until Denzell starts monologuing.
  • The fact Denzel answered Nikolai's simple question without a straight answer with a story of possibly the guy's own childhood is fantastic writing.

The part where McCall speaks in Russian.. you can see in Nicolai's face.. the realisation that he's got involved with the wrong person. Someone even more deadly and connected than he is. Mastery from both actors

“You pray for rain, you gotta deal with the mud too” true
  • I think Denzel Might be one of the best, intense, believable actors to exist.

The more I watch this movie. The more this becomes the best scene….the acting, the body language. The confidence of Nikolai slowly being taken away by Robert….wearing all black staring at him with his black eyes….revealing his life story but remaining a mystery…then he drops the line in Russian…solidifying that you are messing with a killer and I haven’t even really got started. Robert is in zero fear of Nikolai and now he’s letting him know that it’s over….and Nikolai still wondering…..who the hell is this guy…. That’s Bobby McCall, former pip

By telling Teddy information about Teddy's life, McCall is letting him know that he is a man with serious connections and information, and thus someone to be taken very seriously. The fact that he also quietly disposed of Teddy's main muscle in a a restaurant in about 15 seconds should probably have driven the point home.
  • I just realized what the implications of that last line are. Nikolai asks "what do you see when you look at me?" and McCall tells him his own life's story in response. The hidden conversation in this is "do you know who you're dealing with?" and the response is "yes, I've done my research." At the end, McCall gives Nikolai time to make his choice, leaving a phone number with which to contact him when he's ready. It's already fairly clear Nikolai isn't about to take McCall's "offer" seriously, and so that's why McCall turns Nikolai's own question back on him: "what do you see when you look at me?" He's asking him "do you know who you're dealing with?" with the implication that if Nikolai really does know, he should take McCall's "offer" far more seriously. That's brilliant screenwriting right there.
  • "Done some bad things in my life, Nikolai. Things I'm not proud of. I promised someone that I loved very much that I would never go back to being that person. But for you, I'm gonna make an exception." Hairs on the back of my neck stood at attention

Marton is such an underrated, or at the very least underutilized, actor, and it's a joy seeing two brilliant actors like these playing off each other.

“When you pray for the rain, you got to deal with the mud too” Love this line
  • @xdadev
Nikolai: When you look at me, what do you see? Denzel: A scared 12 year old boi
  • @arnev2017
Marton Csokas gave us one of the greatest villains action cinema has produced and he doesn’t get enough credit for it. Yes Denzel is awesome but that only can work if the person opposite him on just as on point. It’s why the first film is so much better than the other two.
  • @Mrsomewhatevil
everybody talking about denzel which is great. but marton csokas really did a good job as a villain
  • @Ryukotsu22
Denzel told him the story of his younger childhood, to let him know, that he KNOWS about him, yet the Russian knows NOTHING about Denzel, even with all his connections. Great Scene
  • Denzel is the only actor i look up for on YouTube just to see his scenes cause thats how impressive his acting skillz are
  • @MelissaLona
The writing for this scene was amazing but the acting by both actors really drove it home. A very intense and memorable scene
