Your answer of “one who does not speak can be certain he won’t say anything embarrassing“ fits Abraham Lincoln’s famous adage of “ better to remain silent and be thought a fool, then to open your mouth and remove all doubt“.

    Q10 the proverb I'd heard is "Idle hands are the devil's workshop" - Meaning that if you don't stay busy, you'll be up to no good.
