The village of Watergrove was inundated by the reservoir in 1938 after less than 100 years in existence under the collective name of Watergrove for a number of hillside hamlets. 200 villagers were displaced, among whom were my wife's maternal great grandmother and her second husband. The water level in the dry summer of 2018 had dropped to the point where the remains of the building where they lived were visible on the water line to the right of Ramsden Road, the cobbled main street that runs through the village from the hills to the north to the village of Wardle to the south. The level factory floor of Watergrove Mill was visible to the left of Ramsden Road viewed over the water from the north.
