[profusely sweating, hoping no one notices that I somehow forgot about the existence of Shiver City]
  • i love how seriously they portrayed Bowser. sure, there was a touch of comedy at the end of his portion of the trailer, but the trailer immediately established how powerful he is, how evil he is, and sets him up to be a serious villain. i expected them to make him like Robotnick in the Sonic films but i’m glad to see he’s more serious

I love that Bowser isn’t just completely a comedic jokey villain, he feels like a genuine threat

I love how the kid just is like “oh cool a Mario movie” because he didn’t wait literal decades for this moment. May all your favourite properties be adapted in a timely fashion

That smug bowser face after the yield line was just perfect bowser.

Something that I really love that not many people are talking about is Kamek's voice. I love how it was done for the one line we got, and he was animated very well also.

I really hope there's a moment where Mario picks up a baby penguin, and has the uncontrollable urge to throw it over a ledge.

This made me realize how good Luigi's Manion 3 was, which was almost on par with its animation and expressions! That's really really impressive considering it was realtime 3D and not prerendered

The fact that you went into this expecting illuminations to 100% ruin it and came out fully on board says a lot about how good they did with this reveal.

Your nephew's reaction to the trailer was one of the most wholesome things I've seen in a long time.

They absolutely nailed Bowser's voice. Jack Black got that gruff, gravelly thing that they've been trying for since Sunshine just perfectly.
  • @BugsyFoga
I love how insanely hard the trailer went in the opening.
  • If this movie is a success and Charlie Day's Luigi is good, I can imagine a Luigi's Mansion movie
  • Honestly the best part was seeing your nephews reaction to the trailer. Because if this movie is able to make the younger side of Mario's audience happy I think that's a success. It's not like Mario is a particularly deep franchise, so something simple and fun is great.

If Bowser is invading the ice kingdom at the beginning, that implies it's a separate place from the Mushroom Kingdom. That's great. I always liked the idea that the Mushroom Kingdom looked like what we saw in the first Super Mario Bros game, with environments consisting of brick roads, water zones, long bridges, tall mushroom platforms and castles. The NSMB series retconned it and made it seem like the Mushroom Kingdom had all kinds of different environments like deserts, ice, swamps, lava, etc, which never sat right with me. I mean, when Super Mario Bros 3 introduced all those environments for the first time, they were explicitly different neighboring kingdoms, not the one Princess Toadstool rules over. As for Mario being from Brooklyn, I always liked that origin story better than the Yoshi 's Island retcon. The idea of a fat, middle aged, overworked plumber accidentally stumbling upon a pipe and being transported to another world, and getting to become a hero, is just really heartwarming and cool. It fits the bizarre universe of Mario and makes you root for his success.

I love how Bowser low-key mocks the penguins. And Luigi was sent to the Hell Forest when Mario landed in the baby zone.

I heard a very slight Brooklyn accent from Pratt’s Mario. My bet would be that Mario is from some version of our world, New York Italian-American and all. Complete with a big Italian family, all of whom are voiced by Charles Martinet with several variations of the classic Mario voice. That’s my prediction at least lol

I'm actually surprised how good Jack Black sounds as Bowser. Mario is OK in comparison. The images look awesome. Actually gonna watch that, and hope it doesn't leave the same mark as the original Mario movie..

I'm honestly extremely hyped to hear the soundtrack too. You have Brian Tyler, who's an amazing composer, collaborating with the legend Koji Kondo himself to make new arrangements of older Mario music. This movie is going to be amazing
