From 2D to 3D: Sonic the Hedgehog

I accidentally deleted this, so I'm reuploading!

Anyway, video games changed a lot when they went 3D. What worked in 2D didn't necessarily work in 3D, and so things had to change.

So, how did the classic Sonic the Hedgehog franchise handle the transition from 2D to 3D? What was kept? What got changed? I go into depth about how the series handled the transition from 2D to 3D.

  • I want a 3d sonic game that's so good that it takes sonic 1, sonic 2, sonic 3, knuckles chaotix, sonic mania, sonic triple trouble, sonic chaos, sonic 3d blast, every single one of them and puts them all to shame. A game that proves that 3d can be as good as 2d and ends the nostalgia once and for all. And I want a written story in it. A story written so well that it makes you cry so hard and for so long you run out of moisture in your body and tears in your eyes. And I do want a story to prove that sonic can have a story, too. And the graphics would be the best graphics possible at their absolute best on this generation on consoles and put to their complete maximum. And this game would be an instant 10/10. And whenever you bring up a discussion of this game you get a big fat lump in your throat cause talking about it makes you feel guilty and like an absolute wreck for ever doubting sonic. And this game would have all the things every single person wants in a sonic game. And it would be put to it's complete maximum. No holds barred. No restrictions. Absolutely none. I don't know if this type of game is even possible. Perhaps I'll pay someone to make it for me. And even if it is I'm not sure how long it would take to make this game. But I want this game to be the ABSOLUTE ACTUAL LITERAL BEST SONIC GAME EVER PERIOD. And I don't even want that to be an opinion I want that to be a fact. And I want this game to end the nostalgia once and for all. That people say 2d is better than 3d. I want a sonic game to end that discussion. I want that argument to stop and never be brought up ever again. Like here is a good start: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJJnxHcv1z4&t=201s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Q0NCY-zhGg&t=198s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5U6g9iw6h94&t=169s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCKuWVGkdrU&t=1092s Whichever of these has the best physics use those. Exactly those exact same physics no matter which engine you create or use. And the physics would be 1:1, an EXACT replica in 3d. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WlsGWN3iVVg&t=20s And maybe these kinds of levels but better. Whichever way they do it I want a completely fully totally absolutely 3d and I want it to be the best sonic game ever made.

Gotta respect your honesty on this subject. I'd say Sonic's levels do have branching paths, but it's presented differently compared to the 2D games. Either way, I've always viewed branching paths in a risk/reward kind of way, so maybe I just don't understand people who found Sonic's stages too linear in this game. I know not everything was perfectly executed in the adventure games, but I believe they achieved what they set out to do rather well. And I'd personally love to see them use the Adventure games as the foundation for 3D Sonic games again, and just improve upon it with conviction.
