How to test your auto darkening welding helmet ? Have you ever looked at your welding but your auto welding helmet didn't darken? So what you need is a auto darkening welding helmet test before you start to weld. Gone are the days when you need to flip down your welding mask but with the advent of auto darkening technology you also need to be sure that your welding helmet is working as it should be .So all you need is a TV remote control point it towards your helmet and push any of the buttons and you should see your helmet auto darken with out looking into dangerous ultraviolet (UV) radiation released by a welding arc. If you are unfortunate to have Arc-eye, also known as welder's flash check out my videos below for my welding flash home remedies.

At first I thought there is no way this is going to work. So I tried it on a $20 and then a $300 hood. Amazing something so simple and easy to do worked. Thank you for the useful information.
  • Good tip! I've done a modest amount of arc rod welding decades ago, before auto darkening helmets and now that I've just gotten back into it I wondered if there was a way to test my new helmet. Thanks!

Thanks for the video pete!! Bought a mig 140 welder, gloves..apron..and fire retardant long sleeve shirt along with an auto_darkening helmet. Last night was my very first time welding anything. And I apparently did NOT even have my auto helmet on. The nob on the side was set to off and just a second ago I realized this. Though there was minimal protection for my eyes last night.. I did still experience a little bit of welders flash but my sight is back to 100%. I'm learning as much as possible and your channel is now on my watch list. Thanks again mate!!
  • Thanks Pete. Just got a new helmet and plasma cutter! Your tips are priceless.
